The 2021 Geek Pride Story Event: Official Support Page

I’ll throw mine in today. Just as soon as I can figure out a title.

I completed it awhile ago.

Geek Pride!

Okay, submitted my Geek Pride story--mostly so I would stop looking at it and tweaking it.

Black Lotus, 25K words, in Romance, about the card game Magic the Gathering.

Can't wait to read everyone else's stories!

Submitted!

"A Glimpse of Emerald," 31k words, Romance, about a local gaming store owner drawn towards a mysterious newcomer to her small town.

Submitted. 'We are such stuff'. 18,500 words. A science fiction mystery and adventure.

Many thanks to LoquiSordidaAdMe for helping me fix its errors.

Looking forward to Geek Pride Day.

I'm cutting it close. Of COURSE I'll be cutting it close. Not quite a novel this time. I'm 39k words in and 2/3rds done. Hot foursome with cleric, fighter and two horny futa succubi as the marquee sex scene. Lots of gore and violence for those not into dickgirl demon sex.

One beta reader said it's too much like "Mud & Magic". Another said this is "Supernatural fucking D&D". The base explanation is "it's a tale from our homebrew tabletop RPG which is based upon Urban Arcana (D20 Modern) by Wizards of the Coast. Only it's M-rated.

And because I like to make life miserable for me, I included a handful song titles for readers to find. Eight so far, will try to get ten in, to make it even. Everything from Pink Floyd (the easy one) to Dance With The Dead (so obvious it will never be found).

This is probably going to be the only time I ever use "Greek Philosophy" as a story tag, though you never really know.

It's a shortie, too, not even 9k words.

"My Math Problem" has been submitted at about 22,400 words. It's in the Mature category but, in the end, I'm not sure whether the older geek or the much younger woman was the more mature.

That's a good tag. A small but enthusiastic erotic niche.

"Pluribus: Icebreaker" submitted! I'm excited! This is my first time participating in one of these events.

I was thinking more along the lines of the erotic equivalent of this:

I didn’t know my day needed Monty Python in it for a cheer up, so thank you for that.

But also, I was thinking of Chidi and Eleanor where he’s trying to teach her ethics.

“It’s like, who died and left Aristotle in charge of ethics?”

Chidi, having just spent hours trying to explain all this: “Plato!

I want to like these. I want to so bad it hurts. Every person I know gets excited over these and tries to send them with that glow of effervescence that a person will get, that eager light in their eyes when they find something niche and need to share the references with someone who will get it. And I see the title with something like Guy Fawkes and Che Guevara. And I want to!

And then the announcer’s voice happens. And I don’t know what goes wrong from there.

It’s cool, not everyone has to like the same stuff that everyone else does. I am a huge anime fan, but I absolutely cannot stand Fullmetal alchemist, despite it being one of the most beloved shows of the last few decades.

Part of the fun of being a geek is sharing one’s geeky interests with other people, without excessive gatekeeping to keep the supposedly “wrong people” out, or getting upset when other people aren’t as enthusiastic about a thing you love as you are.

I've tried for years to watch "Avatar the Last Airbender" and have never made it past the third episode, while all my friends GUSH over it.

Meanwhile I'm a huge professional wrestling fan and their eyes glaze over 10 seconds after I bring it up despite me describing it as a live-action cartoon.

Geek culture isn't monolithic. Like what you like! I love ERB but understand why some people don't. Even then I don't like every ERB.

I think this is part of why it’s so cool to be a geek actually. I can absolutely understand why ERB is so cool to people. Just like I can absolutely understand why people love Studio Ghibli. I have a friend who teases me relentlessly over committing the cardinal sin of disliking Princess Mononoke. Hear me out! That movie is sad as hell and that’s why. Incidentally, they won’t let me watch any of the other movies from that studio now that they know that’s why.

On the other hand, I can talk about Bleach all day long even if there were entire seasons of filler :D. And Hellsing and Gundam Wing were golden for me.

I think I have Covid Brain. Yesterday passed without the slightest thought of posting my story. Which turned out to be a blessing.

I decided to do one last run-through and realized one section had maybe gone beyond the limits (lit's, not mine :D). I rewrote it this morning and hopefully won't get my first rejection.

EVIL
Tessie is stalked by a Demon. (Western)

9300 words. (Erotic Horror)

Yes, but some people always forget and jump the gun, and as long as the comment about Geek Day is in the Notes field, Laurel almost always catches it. So of you have something ready now, I'd go ahead and get it in. I'm still finishing off mine this weekend.

Mine started as a failed first draft/concept for the Mikey Spillane story contest, which is in September.

The murder occurs in this story and now I have 4 months to rewrite the other part as a stand alone noir style homage to one of the great writers of the 20th century. Since the murder does not occur within the Mikey Spillane story, I don't have to misled the reader into wondering who the killer is or the motivation.

I wonder if we will be able to post earlier for that next contest?

I prefer Castlevania. Sypha is my idea of a waterbender.

Castlevania is one of my top 3 video game franchises. And the Netflix show was effing brilliant. I'm waiting with bated breath for the inevitable Symphony Of The Night season. :)

My wife heard me screaming from the basement all the way to our top floor when "Bloody Tears" started playing during the castle fight. Everything in the previous two seasons was worth it for that moment.
