The 12 Step Bootstep

I take issue with this - I say this is no better than being an addict.

All of these problems are experienced by sober alcoholics who "live and die" by the program.

I am recovered. I have achieved balance in my life. It took me ten years and initially I did use 12 steps groups.

I refuse to life believing I am flawed and will never recover without the help and support of a 12-step group.

I can't go anymore. I still do, every oncein a while. But it enrages me to be told I am still sick and will eventually fuck up and die because I do not live the program anymore.

I have moved on.

I think it's just different for some people than for others. I think some people need to stay in the group because their lives and attitudes don't change all that much, they are anchored by their past, their fear. Others can move on because they examine themselves, change their lives and let go of the past. Like I said earlier, my husband has been sober for a long time and no longer attends meetings, but his life is completely different now. He knows the meeting is there if he would need it, but says he can no longer really identify with the person he once was. Do I worry that he'll start drinking again? No. I trust him completely, he's proven himself many times.

12 things to say here….

Babygrrl – you are not sick and will not eventually, whatever…I am glad you were wise and strong enough to seek help when it was needed. Also, I really meant it when I said you were “respectable.”

Neon – just teasing, I have this evil habit of throwing out sexist remarks, I for one am happy with whatever anyone is comfortable with…

Which brings me to Rob – yummy and Thank You! In case anyone missed it, well, I guess you missed it!

Sarahh – sweet thing, I think your “hearts” is what did the trick, darlin’

Stella – If I might, hopefully with permission, steal from babygrrl “you are the coolness of an unruffled lake at dawn, and as cherished.” I second that emotion.

TK – haba, haba, haba, baby!

Box – what can I say, I absolutely admire the fact that you beat your addiction. Hats off to you, and I think your current addiction, that of licking boxes, is eminently to be treasured!

VM – teddy bear! You, my dear man, are so adorable, I don’t know whether to hug you or fuck you!

It looks like eight things, but I said multiple things to a few, so its 12, count ‘em

Lisa, you are serenity - an iridescent sea mist dappled with playful sealripple.

Why choose with VM - I'd take both if I were allowed. *grin*

OMS - there are those who make it and I am grateful to hear of ones that do. Often it takes the great love and patience of another to help them achieve this. I am blessed with ones who love me.

I noticed what you were up to, and I have a newfound respect for you. :rose:

And I love, love, love your metaphor for Stella. *crosses fingers and hopes this is a metaphor and not a simile, thereby exposing illiterate self to ridicule*

It is a metaphor and only fools are redickulus....

Dick what?

(Mine isn't a metaphor.)

Well broken down:

Re - in the English colloquial roughly means, concerning

Dick - archaic term for a detective

Ulus - Turkish for nation

Thus: redickulus - thinking about the national detectives of Turkey

On a completely unrelated note, are there 12 step programs for the extremely bored?

Sure. Sex.

And I really wasn't interested in what it meant, by the way.

I was just flirting with Fool.

Talking about his dick and all.

:cattail:

Scarlett – I sure did not mean to overlook you. I hesitate to speak, lest this sounds trite, but I think the faith you have in the one you love has much to do with his success. Living up to the quiet confidence of one who loves you, certainly there could be nothing greater to which to aspire.:rose:

by the way, thanks Fool, I truly was worried!

Ha, ha, she is a con artiste, she tried to con me out of my panties, but I tricked her (I am not wearing any!)
I assure you, madam-- I was being utterly sincere. There really was a polka-dot panties health warning broadcast. I had your best interests in mind....

Thanks, Lisa. Actually, I became addicted to licking boxes in late September 1959.
