In a truck?
What? Did you think this was going to be dirty? No keelhauling here.
I'm wondering what you call the handle right next to the door in a car/truck. Not the door handle or lever, but the molded plastic handle that is generally attached to the A-pillar of a vehicle. In an older vehicle, it may actually be a pleather strap riveted to the roof of the car.
I call this an oh-shit handle. It's there for those times the driver makes you go "oh, shit!" and you need to hold on. In a Jeep or other tubular off-road vehicle, this would simply be a part of a roll bar.
What do you call this? I've read and heard it called a "sissy strap". But the truck in my story is a 2012 Tundra, so it's a molded handle, not the old-school strap. I'm just wondering if there are other, non-technical terms for this piece of... equipment.
The way I understand it is that not everybody calls it an oh-shit handle and that may be a backwoods term for it.
Thank you.
