When your wife, who is very similar to Anastasia Steele, imagines you as Christian Grey and you're getting hard imagining yourself as Leila Williams. The embarrassment was so real... Oy vey.

so, is the second movie any better than the first one?

Because I couldn't watch the first one at all. Not only they actually managed to make the script and dialogue worse, compared to the novel, but that actor play was simply too much for me.

It's a movie trying to sling together a serious love story about a corporate sociopath emotionally and physically abusing a naive college student who has more than a few anxiety disorders. I'm not sure it's possible to make a good movie out of that.

Also in the first movie the producer's idea of a Dom being given free reign to "do your worst" is hitting somebody 5 times with a crop.
Hardcore, right?

Seems like i'm the only female in my circle of friends that doesnt like the books or the movie.
I tried explaining what you just said to them but i'm wrong and they're right and it's hot as hell....

I kinda liked the books, especially 2nd and 3rd ones. I can see why people are hating them, but I can also see why they love them. It just takes switching your brain off, like you do for Marvel movies.

Also I do believe a good movie could be made out of this. It's just that everything from screenplay to dialogue to acting to camerawork is done very poorly.

It's basically a "beauty and the beast" story (1st book), and then switching to "he loves her so much that he doesn't need his gigs" story in the next two.

The portrayal of BDSM is unhealthy, yeah. But I didn't hate the entire story just because of that.

not read 'shades'

just because a book is badly written and misrepresentative of books as a concept; doesn't stop it making shit loads of money (movie franchises etc).

Exhibit 1 : Dan Brown (Da Vinci Code)

I saw it. The dialogue was poor and as others have mentioned, the characters are distinctly flawed. There is a vibe in the film that 'needing' bdsm is somehow bad.

But I like that this and the last film can pique people's curiosity about bdsm and exploring their sexuality.

And as I mentioned elsewhere the leg spreader acrobatics was

I read the books because my friends kept insisting how hot it was. The idea was intriguing, and I like to read...
I felt like I was reading my mom's Harlequin romances with the word FUCK thrown about. I didn't like the characters. I wasn't invested. I heard it was fleshed out vampire fanfic???

Have not seen the movies. I don't think the Christian actor is attractive, although the girl (Meg Ryan's daughter) is adorable.

I love that my friends giggle over it, though. I like seeing that side of them.

So, I'm neutral on it all.

Kinda sorta. It started as fanfic for twilight, where Bella and Edward have sex.
With the pretence of innocent girl having sex with dangerous beast who might hurt her but restrains himself.

In the end the author decided to expand on the idea, replacing vampirism with sadistic intentions of Mr.Grey and supernatural vampiric allure with being Rich and super-sexually-experienced, so that he can make women feel the best orgasms in their lives by giving them a glance. Virtually flawless man in every respect but one - rich, sexual god, beautiful, fit, smart, witty, rich, kind, loving, rich... Ok, he's a bit of an asshole, but hey - the protagonist has to have something to work on fixing for the next three books, otherwise all that she'd have left to do would be lie down, spread her legs and enjoy eternal bliss. Which is mostly what they are doing in bed anyway, because sex is very unimaginative and boring, often defaulting to missionary position in the end.

As I said, it's more like Beauty and the Beast, than an actual vampire fanfic. The initial inspiration didn't really leave a lot of trace back to Twilight.

As long as you can flip that switch and suspend disbelief, they're okay. Neither main actor does it for me but hey, I watched the full two hours. Shout out to the spreader acrobatics for SURE!

I rather enjoyed reading and watching Twilight but with 50 shades I couldn't switch off my "holy shit, this is so bad" head...I didn't get anywhere near the so bad it's good vibe and have no interest in watching the movies

The books were poorly written (and as you say, like reading mom's harlequin), the fantasies are lame, the characters are boring. The movies are void of any emotions and the acting - well I'd rather watch a Kristen Stewart-monologue.

My girlfriends don't just giggle, they are finding their husbands/partners boring, unadventerous and even avoid sex with them cause they're not indulging their fantasies based on the movie.

Well if a movie inspires their fantasies, there should be nothing wrong in indulging them

Not everyone share the same fantasies, and (atleast to me) if someone just goes along with it and doesn't really enjoy it, well that's no fun.
And to take away sex as a sort of punishment cause they don't share your fantasy and don't jump in with both feet, I'd be pissed.

well I'll agree on that. I'm just saying that it's nothing wrong to get inspired to fantasies by that movie. It's not a movie or a book problem. It's your friends' problem.

Personally, I enjoy indulging my partners to their fantasies even if I don't enjoy them myself. As long as those fantasies are not revolting for me.
I just enjoy their enjoyment. Like I once knew a girl who liked anal play a lot. I, myself, will avoid it if I can, but I had fun indulging her.:cattail:

That's bad. Ugh. The poor husbands probably don't know what hit them.

Wife to poor husband...

"Dammit! Harold! Why aren't you a 27 year old billionaire who takes me in your private plane to gorgeous places while tying me up and making my cum 5000 time a night? What an ahole!"

Husband...

"uhhh...."

I have seen the opposite, pretty much every female I went with except me left the movie with the idea they were going home to fuck the holy hell out of their hubby. I went for the company which was great, but it felt so weird knowing what I have done in the past and read or discussed and I thought if any of them had any clue who I really was... lol!:eek:

I thought some of the acting was particularly bad but I did like Christian better this time as I hated him in the last movie. A few of the scenes did give me a little tummy flip.. but I have a very good imagination. Lol!

It's about the same plot as Secretary, if you replace "corporate" with "lawyer" and I think the latter is an awesome movie.

I was online friends with the author back in the day when it was a Twilight fanfic. The story had an INCREDIBLE amount of traffic, followers, and reviews. So many people couldn't wait for each new chapter to post. It was kind of written in the style of Twilight (first person narrative where you were viewing the story from the naive girl's thoughts). Fifty Shades was not meant to be a story on BDSM. It was one of those impossible love stories where the naive and innocent girl steals the heart of a 'monster' and the journey it took to get there. It also wasnt meant to make BDSM look bad either, although i can see how it would seem that way. Christian Grey was 'damaged' because of circumstances in his life (his mother, abuse, neglect) and the way he was introduced into BDSM. The BDSM factor was so not the focus of the story but made it more marketable to capitalize on that. For people in the lifestyle that thought is was tame or 'lame', you have to realize that you were only getting the glimpses that Anna saw. It wasn't suppose to be a James Deen porno! I did enjoy reading it online, but was a little surprised when it got pulled for publishing. I also bought the books to support the author and to find out how the last few chapters ended. I thought it was pretty good, but I have not, and probably won't, see any of the movies. Movies are NEVER as good as the book. When you read a book, you can visualize everything exactly as you want to see it. Oh, and comments on some of the other commenters - Twilight was not inspired by Harry Potter fanfic. I thought the DaVinci Code was a good book but terrible movie. And if Fifty Shades spiced up someone's love life - that's awesome! (In case you were wondering, I read A LOT - books, magazines, online stories and articles, the back of a cereal box - all types of media and very diverse genres.)☺

I never thought about it, but now I have to agree. Marketing made it seem that BDSM is the focus of the story, and in reality it's not. It's just a point of conflict and the "safe danger" of the book, but the story is not very fetish-y if you think about it. You could have taken all kinky sex out and still be left with a story none worse than originally. There are like 3 good kinky scenes in 3 books anyway, all the rest being vanilla where male takes all initiative and the girl lies back and enjoys.

Exactly! But because of the way it was marketed, it did pique people's interest and widened the doors to allow books that were actually BDSM based to be mainstreamed into, formally, more conventional types of book stores retailers. (Even if it was for the purpose of capitalizing on something the majority now deemed acceptable) Some really good authors and books were discovered or made more accessible because of this. So, really it was a big win for all.

Watched the second episode yesterday. (did not see episode 1)
I was never so bored watching a movie in my life. It was rather funny at some moments then excited.
There was a scene at the end of the movie which indicated that there will be a third episode. No go for me.

I'm working together with a dozen women (guys, it's not as fantastic as some might imagine), and when we had our company Christmas dinner 2-3 years ago, the book was discussed. I was appalled that at least half of them had read "50 Shades" - not because I'm a prude, but because I thought they had better taste. Since then, I got together with Kissa, who is now my wife, and who proved to have a decidedly kinky side. If my workmates only knew what we are doing in our privacy... Probably hotter and more advanced than what they do, but I guess one can never know...
