That Jeopardy Dude! James Holzhauer

James Holzhauer...holy crap! He is fun to watch. Over a million dollars, thus far.

Oh wow, SG, you scared me, I was expecting to find an Alex Trebek kicks the bucket thread!

These big winners are pretty neat. They have the knowledge and the ability with the buzzer both. You don't see it too often so it's always fun when it happens.

I knew what you meant. He's been all over the news. Although I have yet to watch him.

He doesn’t stick to one category. He jumps all over the board and bets huge.

The guy has devoted his entire life to being on the show...built his own split-second buzzer panel with the exact quarter-second delay the show has for early buzzer penalty. Had his father drill him over and over. Researched the odds of betting big early then betting it all on Daily Doubles.

That guy is obsessed.

That's important — he obviously couldn't be doing this well without being really smart — but his background as a gambler means he's comfortable with risk in a way that most players wouldn't be. You can't win the kind of money he has without being willing to risk losing most of it at some point during the episode.

As unbeatable as he seems right now, eventually he'll be up against a player who is just as good at buzzing in, or he'll lose a lot of money (or Final Jeopardy) at the wrong time, or both.

Successful quiz shows make the viewer think he's smarter than the contestants.

Therefore, they'll get rid of him in due course; big winners in the long term are bad for ratings.
