That damn age rule rears it's ugly head

Hey all. Gotta question.

Amidst my latest chapter, I had the idea to put in a flashback of the couple I'm writing about, where they shared a kiss years earlier but nothing ever became of it.

The question is, would "kissing" under the age of 18 be included in the "no underage sex" rule? I could change it so that they almost kissed or just had an awkward moment or something, but frankly it'd be a lot better if it was an actual kiss.

:rose: Thank ya much

Myself, I'd say that would be all right. They didn't have sex in any way, shape or form, so you should be cool.

If you're really concerned, PM Laurel and ask her.

Depends on the kiss.

A laughing recall of noses getting in the way and the "pucker and smack" kind of "kid kissing" tha most first kisses really amount to will probably pass without comment.

A kiss that prompted a "get a room" or "how do you guys breath?" comment would probably get rejected.

It's more of a *Lean over and kiss - Lasts all of 2 seconds - followed by 5 minutes of awkward silence*

Yeah, sounds pretty innocent to me. Just try to avoid writing in a lot of sexual thoughts, tension and innuendo into that part of the story. Sometimes, a kiss is just a kiss. While other times...

Well - Anyone familiar with my story would know I'm writing about a sorta psuedo-incest taboo (close step-siblings). It's a romantic story, and in the most recent chapter I'm adding a memory of when they were younger and they shared a drunken, impulsive kiss. Not a sexual one, more of a sweet/cute one.

I think I'll put it in and just hope it doesn't get rejected... it's utterly non-erotic in nature - Just romantic in a sweet innocent/yet forbidden kinda way ^_^

Thanks for the input

People really misunderstand the rule, and I can understand why as Lit is very strict about it. The rule is this:

Lit recognizes that people under the age of 18 have sex. You can make reference to this ("I lost my virginity at age 16"), and you can certainly show those under 18 years of age kissing, especially fairly innocent, teenage kisses.

What you can't show is anyone under 18 naked or having sex.

It should be no problem, though if it is, just PM Laurel. And if you really want to be careful, don't mention the age, just "It was one summer back at the lake..." Something like that, allowing the reader to assume they're 16 year olds rather than saying it.
