I've just read your critique of "I'm Not In It For The Money".

I always seem to have a problem with "conscience" and "conscious". It's the spelling I fall down on which of course give the word a completely different meaning.

And the charity dinner I fitted in because I didn't want to make the story one long 'wham, bang, thank you ma'am'. Having said that 'though I agree I could either have made the dinner:

1. more interesting
2. shorter
3. or non-existent (create a different break in the story line)

In the future I'll certainly watch out for that type of pitfall.
