While reading Federalist Paper #13 I fell over James Madison's odd use of CONFOUNDING. He meant CONFUSING, or did he? The modern meaning of CONFUSED is DISCOMFIT OF FEELINGS OR MIND. Around Madison's time CONFUSED was different.
In 1787 CONFUSED was what you did when you got it wrong, and CONFOUNDING comes from CONFUSE.
But there's more. CONFUSED/CONFOUNDED also means youre ignorant of all relevant applications or the exact opposite....aware of all applications. You know too much or too little.
