Walmart window unit is your best bet. And once you get your a/c fixed, you will have an emergency spare.

you can get a window one at wal mart for like 100 are 150 that well do for now hot weather just about over with

Welive in a mobile homepark...no window units allowed. :( We had one in storage and have given it to my dad since he's been sick and needed the extra cooling anyway.

thats got to suck and a/c people know we need a/c here to so they want to screw you over as much as one can

A big help

TxBelle,

Let me tell you one thing that will be a big help. I learned this while camping in the summer heat with the boyscouts. As you can imagine, tents get damned hot and will NOT cool off at night. Even with the rain fly off. If you go to Academy or any sporting good store, you can buy a camping cot. They cost ~$15 and fold up nicely when they are not in use. They will keep you MUCH cooler than sleeping ona bed because there will be air ciculating underneath you. When my a/c went out, I pulled in a cot, set up a fan and was quite comfortable. Even in August.

Good luck.

It's 5.30 in the morning. I slept maybe an hour last night. My hubby just left for work and the sweet thing hugs me, tells me he's sorry and that he wishes he could do better for me. Awweee. Get that 401 k loan dear and get me a compressor fan and that's all I'll ask for til net week! :)

I'm exhausted and hot. My babies are hot, my fucking dog is sweating and it's gonna be 85 degrees here today. Much better than 100 + but still sweltering after the rains.

I'm gonna be miserable all day w/no sleep. Without those thyroid meds I don't regulate my body temp too well right now.

Also, first go out and try cleaning the coils, if you live in a dusty area it may have gotten dirty. Just shut off the power to the unit, and take a hose and blast the outer coils. If it's clogged with dirt it can cause the compressor to kick. Oh yeah, make sure you change your air filters regularly as well.
Other than that, it could just be low on freon.

The coils and freon are fine. Thanks for the suggestion though. When we came home Monday the fan had stopped. Last year when we went through this I tried spinning the fan with a screw driver and it worked. The fan kicked in and all was fine. I can't remember how long it worked until it went out but I thought my husband had done that again and failed this time so I didn't bother. Last night I got a wild hair and knowing how forgetful my husband is I tried it. It worked! I slept well.

TxBelle,

Something to keep in mind next time. This very thing happenned to me earlier this year. If the compressor is fine, that is good news because that is the expensive part. If the problem is just the fan motor outside, this is easy. Be sure to trun the circuit breaker off and remove the fan. Not as easy as changing a light bulb mind you, but as easy as changing a tire. Just be sure you make a drawing showing where all the wires go. Then take the suspect motor to a motor rebuilding shop in town. There is one here and they are great. They will test your motor for free and sell youa replacement. I did this and walked out for less than $50! It was cheaper than a service call just to get someone out to look at it.

Good luck.

Ahhhhhh Steve sprang for a whole new airconditioner. It's beautiful. It blows. My feet are cold. Yippieeee!

I cleaned the storage room today. Washed the dog (and the comforter she was obviously sneaking up on while we are gone because it smelled like dog too) And had my parents come over so we could grill...all day. Yummy!

Steve just went out to find a party a while ago. The boys are at Mamaw's and Papaw's. I have the house all to myself. I've eaten all day and after two pieces of Texas toast and two eggs finally feel full. I'm going to go crank up the air, get under my comforter, snuggle up with my puppy, and sleep like a baby.

Blue . . . don't make me come there and get all motherly on you. I'm starting to feel maternal instincts and mothering everyone up here :)

Maternal instincts? That better not mean what it better not mean! lol

Hey...come on and visit. I could use some mothering. lol

hello everyone. Blue Daisy, girl, listen to what everyone is saying and consider easing up on the throttle just a bit. I think you have to take this recovery in steps and I know you want so much for it to be over, but rushing things is just going to set you back. I don't think that would be worth it. Take GOOD care of yourself! {{hugs}}

Yeah, I know. But it is just so hard to change eating habits like that. Not only can I NOT eat some things, probably forever, I can only eat a little bit of what I can eat. *sigh* Well, at least the leftovers from a restaurant last longer! lol That is, if hubby and the girls stay out of mine. lol

Belle....I'm glad you got the air conditioner finally. I know how miserable it is to be in Texas with no air. Our a/c went out when I was pregnant with our son (he will be 10 in 14 days)...the hottest day of that year. I was about 8 months pregnant. Because of my pregnancy, we went to a motel for the first night, and the 2nd night we were able to get a room in billetting on base. I guess we are spoiled; just had to wait for maintenance to fix the a/c.

dcraz...love the av!

braman...welcome to Lit!

No it doesn't mean that. It means I'm wanting one badly though. Scott isn't helping much either, he just tells me to quit the pills and we'll have one.

No, no no!!!!! Do NOT....I REPEAT DO N0T rush into having kids. Take my word for it! Your life will never, ever, ever be the same. Stay on the pill forever if you have to! Come borrow my kids for a week...that will change your minds!

lol

Rent-a-Kids????

I'll tell everyone here at once: I am finally among the ranks of the gainfully employed. I accepted a permanent job today. Yea me. I'm not really excited. Just terribly relieved.

Yea, you!

Congrats - gotta be a big relief.

Thanks. It is. I'm pleased. I think the position is a good fit too, which makes it even better. I guess sometimes good things DO come to those who wait -- even though patience is NOT one of my virtues!

Virtues?

... ummm ... nobody told me we were supposed to have virtues.

Maybe I can find myself a couple of used ones before the LitTogether.

<heading on over to eBay>

Congratulations! Way to go, hon!

I need to get one of them things (job).

Rick...that's a hoot, getting virutes on e-bay. I like the way you think *grin*

Congrats girl! Hopefully I'll be among those ranks soon!

Hi Sara....how is the job search going? What kind of work are you looking for? (you can reply to that off-thread if you prefer!)

Congratualtions!

Someplace,

Congrats on finding a job. Espeically one that is in your field. I know plenty of people looking for work. One just got laid off after 12 years. Another was out of work for over a year before finally taking a job in Wisconsin.

I am VERY luck. I have had the pleasure of working for the same company for 18 years. I would not even know how to look for job if I had to.

Sara,

Welcome and hang in there. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!
