Denim is really hard on the sewing machine. My big buy at the RenFair was a bag of leather scraps -- all I could cram into an 8x12" bag for $15! What a deal!

I got blue leather and pink leather and browns of every shade, light green and dark green. Just fabulous. I've been making patchwork balls the past two weeks and have branched out from cottons to exotic materials -- embroidered silks, velveteens, corderoys etc....so I was excited to try the leather. Came straight home from the fair and cut out the pieces for a ball. After sewing about 4 of them, I got discouraged because the leather doesn't want to move through the machine -- kinda sticks and makes the thread break. I dreamed about it that night and decided I needed to mix other fabrics with the leather, keep the fabric on the bottom when I sew, and see if it'll glide through the machine better that way.

Any leather workers out there who can give me advice? I KNOW these balls will be beautiful if I can figure this out.

Mostly I rivet the pieces together. Or punch the leather before lacing together. I'll ask at armorer's guild when next I am there.

These pieces are very thin and plyable. I considered also sandwiching them between tissue paper to see if they would feed through the machine easier that way. After I try it, I'll report back. And you report back if you hear anything at your guild.

There is no State income taxes in Texas.

Winters are shorter then around NYC.

Everyone even seems to have at least 1 pickup truck. :D

Having no state income tax is great and the winters are nothing like they are up north. I'm not a cold weather kind of person. I've always wanted to go to NYC but I think I'll go in the spring or summer.

Pick up trucks have a built in bed. Can't go wrong there.....:D
