The state is doing what the people want it to do when it comes to capital punishment. When you get enough votes, you can change it.

Most people understand that any person wrongfully put to death is an American tragedy, but they have collectively decided that morally a known killer cannot be allowed to have life of any kind after removing all options for life from his victim. They also know that no system is perfect.

There are several reasons why I'm opposed to capital punishment, but the part about no system being perfect is the main one. Some mistakes can't be un-mistaken.
