Texas Roll Call!

Nice break from the summer heat today - overcast and raining a bit now and then. I need to get out and work in the yard.

When you’re done, I need help. My potato vine needs trimming and my knockout roses are sky high up the center of my windmill. I’m pretty sure there’s at least 2 bird nests in there, too. Blue jays.

My potato vine is about to take the whole place over. I'm going to turn over the flower beds and shrubs to a gardener and just repot some stuff in containers. I have "people" for the hard stuff! Some areas a couple of miles from me are having the invasion of egrets - what a nightmare.

It is the perfect Texas heat plant. In thrives in shit soil and minimal water.

What’s an egret?

One of these. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/06/Ardea_modesta.jpg/220px-Ardea_modesta.jpg
They're a water bird but they nest in trees like other birds. They're big, loud and shit all over everything. They ruin yards and vehicles and take down property values. The problem is, they're federally protected when nested, so once they're there you can't do anything. People hang shiny stuff in trees and set off cannon boomer thingys to scare them off. They've invaded neighborhoods all over Ft Worth the last few years. They're getting too close.

Oh wow! I have never heard of them and I live right by a massive lake. I mean, I’ve seen them before but never massive flocks or an out of control population. What a pain in the ass. Maybe a little tannerite? Haha.

Ha, something like that, but not even that after they're on the nest. Although...certain little squirrels gnawing into my attic might benefit.....

What a beautiful day in Texas! I hope y'all are all having a fantastic weekend! :rose:

Good evening folks. It stormed most of the night and until about 9:30 this morning but finally cleared up.

I think we have had enough rain for a bit now.
