TEXAS HOUSE DEMOCRATS FLEEING TO THE LAND OF LINCOLN

Please please please
Post proof that Dems ever did this between census .. censuses .. cencii ?
If not? Ok? New precedent being set

Key quote to establish precedent that Democrats have done this before:

When Democrats came out of the 2020 election with just a 222-213 advantage, some observers claimed that Pelosi’s majority was due to several states that saw mid-decade redistrictings. Specifically, beginning with the 2016 election cycle, North Carolina, Florida, Virginia, and Pennsylvania discarded maps that were favorable to Republicans and replaced them with plans that were more generous to Democrats.

The only reason why what they're trying to do isn't illegal is that until fairly recently, neither party would dare try for such a thing. And as usual, I can only wish the Democrats were half as good (or brazen) at gaming the system as you think they are. No, the Democrats have never tried to redistrict any state in the middle of the decade because a president told them to.

If it were nearly anyone else but Trump, I would agree. But the way he talks about immigrants, Muslims, progressives, and even Republicans who don't march in lock step with him makes the comparison totally valid. The way ICE is literally snatching people off the street with no due process is a perfect match, too.

Put up or shut up: when have the Democrats ever even tried to force a mid-decade redistricting in any state simply because the president wanted more safe seats for his party? Go ahead, I'll wait.

This would be a lot more convincing if the Republicans weren't in complete control for the 2022 redistricting. But they were.

Either way, they can't vote. I'm sure you heard otherwise on Fox News or OAN or something, but they can't.

No, open borders have not allowed anything, because we never had open borders. Not under Biden, not under Obama, not at any time in living memory at this point.
Are you a social crack smoker? Our boarders were wide open under Joe biden. State of Florida this year has wasted > $500,000,000 this year alone in health care for these scumbag illegals.

Hospitals must kick out illegals if he or she can't pay.

Our what was open???

Biden deported as many or more people than Trump in Trump’s first term.

Proportional representation may be the best long term answer to gerrymandered election fraud.

More important, winner-take-all elections for single seats are what make the district lines so high-stakes. Countries that had adopted winner-take-all elections, like Australia and New Zealand, abandoned them when they recognized the system’s perversities. Proportional representation is actually the more commonly practiced voting method, and it ought to be the end goal here. The only way to get a legislature that approximates the popular will is through divvying up the members in proportion to the total vote; you will never get a map to deliver this outcome, no matter how scrupulously fair. (Of course, proportional representation is impossible in the deeply malapportioned Senate; but also of course, we shouldn’t have a Senate with any voting power, and should devolve it into an American version of the House of Lords.)

90 nations use proportional representation.

It seems 'anything new' would be betteer than the current aged system of gerrymandering. Proportian representation seems an equitable way to address this, but not done at a state level. It would have to be done at the Congressional level. And we know what that means...

This is a background piece by a scholar on the subject. So expect it to be 'stuffy read' but it's worth wading through the muck to see the value of proportional representation models.

You haven’t stated any facts, weirdo. You just make things up and become agitated by the things you made up. 👍
I didn't make up Obama's Coup, Biden's memory banks in foreclosure, Democrats running Windows 95 upstairs, I did shoot all of the holes in your thinking cap that's allowed all of your marbles to escape, however.

None of those involved Democrats (who incidentally did not have control of any of those state legislatures at the time) redrawing maps simply because the president told them to. They were court-ordered redistrictings to undo Republican gerrymanders. Better luck next time.

Learn to spell, and no, they weren't. You're just repeating a right-wing talking point that, like so many others, has been repeated so many times most people assume it's true. But it isn't.

I didn't make up Obama's Coup, Biden's memory banks in foreclosure, Democrats running Windows 95 upstairs,
Fine, you didn't make them up. You just gullibly repeated them all after hearing them from whoever did make them up.

*chuckle* Reading through this thread is like listening to the inmates of an asylum. "We're going to save democracy by sabotaging democracy." Fucking morons.

United States Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) tweeting that FBI Director Kash Patel has responded to his request to assisting State and local law enforcement in locating the runaway Texas House Democrats and investigate potential offenses.
It's Friday. The FBI has not taken action to find them. However, some Congress members are demanding to know why the FBI is involved in state actions where no criminal acts have been committed. It appears to be a long arm of the law, politicized overreach.

Perhaps Kash has been put on a leash by Bondi, who is getting hammered by those Congressional members wanting to know why the FBI is involved in a non-criminal act at the request of a local state of Texas official.

Bomb threats where the Dems were staying.

Why are MAGAts so violent?

Honestly they are so consistently violent we don't think twice about it. PP near me has armed guards. Bombs go off at facilities so often it doesn't make the news if there isn't a fatality or major damage. We're that accustomed to it. How many threats go off every time someone says they are performing surgeries on children at a Children's Hospital. That's just how it goes.

Saw a piece of the news that says Abbot filed a case in Illinois while judge shopping for a Republican leaning judge to honor the civil arrest warrants in Texas as if they were his state's civil issued warrants.

What's that Texas saying? All hat and no cattle!

That would be a first in any state, I believe, for such a decision over local matters that are not criminal. And still the FBI is nowhere to be found in its search for those rascally, elusive Democrats hiding out in barbed wire encampments in the wilds of those foreign states.

Abbot even went so far as to cancel their direct deposit pay, leaving them without a way to receive their state paychecks. I wonder how much they earn and whether they rely on those funds to survive. Doesn't that state have some kind of biennial legislative meeting or something similar?

Are those so outraged at Dems taking their pay just as outraged at Mikey Johnson stealing from campaign funds to pay his rent?

Or is hypocrisy involved inside the Party of Bribery and Corruption.

As a former resident of MA, there are no republican districts even though 41%of the population voted red in 2024.

If democracy was so important, why leave? And why go to MA, Chicago, LA and NY? Who e er planned thus forgot to think of optics and public opinion. It doesn't look good, especially if the party is being painted in same corner as the types of criminals ICE keeps picking up.

You are not fighting for democracy, but to keep your job. Reminds me to the scene from Blazing Saddles and the bit with governor trying to save the phoney baloney jobs.
