I just came back from four days of more sex than I have had in the last 30 years. This was sex in the morning, afternoon and evenings. We literally had our hands on each other except when in public places (and occasionally there too).

Day one was great with no problems getting and maintaining an erection. Day two was also pretty good, though in the evening I started having a little trouble maintaining an erection even in full intercourse.

By day three, I could get hard, but after about five minutes of intercourse, I start to go soft. Once I feel it start to happen, my attention is diverted to and it probably exacerbates the situation.

Day four was good in the morning, but by afternoon, my erection lasts maybe only a couple of minutes.

So I know this is a lot of sex, but I could do it when I was younger so I wonder what has changed. I am thinking now about testosterone therapy to increase my sex drive

Viagra and Cialis help a little, but dont make a big difference. My testosterone levels are within a normal range. I am 52 in great physical condition. I drink but dont smoke. Alcohol may have been a factor one time when we were doing tequila shots off each others bodies (I highly recommend that if you can find little crevices to puddle tequila with lime and salt)

Any suggestions? Feedback from men that have undergone testosterone therapy? Is this just normal?

i don't know how old you are, but i think that's actually fairly normal, at least to some extent. you report not seeing much benefit from cialis & viagra, which honestly surprises me a bit.

i know that alcohol and nicotine can negatively impact erections. is there a chance either of those factors might be at play?

Have you talked to your doc about this? If not, I'd think that would be the first step.

Or maybe the second, actually. Do you have a problem maintaining your erection under more typical circumstances, like sex a few times a week (or whatever is normal for you) and masturbation? That's probably something you should look into before messing with your hormones.

Also, how often are you likely to have sex marathons like the one you had recently? If the answer is 'not often,' perhaps you should leave your normal levels alone or come up with a plan to prepare for the infrequent marathons with your doc (e.g. ED drugs to help and/or a short course of testosterone before the event).

Did the tequila happen on the second day? Is it possible you were a little tired, the tequila exacerbated the issue, and then a combo of exhaustion and fear screwed things up the rest of the time?

I did talk to the doc about ED medicines. Though, I really don't have an issue with ED, I do like that they can make me really hard. He did the blood work to measure testosterone levels and they came out in the normal range.

Really, having sex every other day or every third day is no problem. I was just wondering if I was expecting too much by having sex 2 or 3 times a day for four days and hoping to achieve the same quality erection as day one.

I like you idea of hormone therapy only in advance of those days where sex will be frequent. I really do not want to do it long term - there are dangers that can be life-threatening.

I'll talk to the doc next week and see what he says.

Thanks!

I suspect you're expecting too much. As healthy as you may be, you're not in your teens, twenties, or even thirties. Be realistic about what you can expect from your body at this point in your life and happy you don't have a problem that affects your normal sex life or makes it impossible.

At this point, your best course is likely coming up with some alternatives to using your cock every time during marathons. Consider what you would do if you really had a serious ED problem - how else could you be intimate and have a lot of fun w/ your partner?

To be very clear, I'm not a medical professional, and I don't know if that's a viable option or not.

Talk to your doc, but I'd think a good doc would advise against messing with your normal hormone levels, especially when there is no real dysfunction. In my mind, it's kind of like prescribing thyroid hormones when the thyroid is functioning fine, but the patient wants the quicker metabolism they had when they were younger or to shed some pounds before their high school reunion.

My SO is 48 and we only see each other once a week, so we also do the marathon.

When he arrives he has a very 'hard' erection. I've found that over the course of the day, his erection is 'softer' each time we start sex again, but it does 'harden' during each sexual act.

I've noticed this with other middleaged lovers in the past too.

I hope that makes sense, I guess that Im trying to say, in my very limited experience your description didn't sound unusual.

Well, I'm no professional, but I was training to be a nurse at one point. :D
I'd say long term use of any steroid supplement is a major cancer risk. It is pretty safe short term, though.

Hormone replacment is not a couple of days aweek thing,it's a lifetime comittment,as for life threatening dangers i suggest you do some research, there are more dangers in smoking and drinking,i dont know if it's allowed if not please forgive me mods,www.afboard.com tons of usefull info on TRT/HRT and tons of knowledgable people that like to help.i could go on and on but i wont seriously check out this board and get informed.

I will look at that. I went to a physician once and asked about testosterone treatment and he just gave me the run around...essentially required that I get a very extensive set of expensive lab procedures. Told me to come back when he had the results. This was 4-5 years ago. I looked up some of the lab tests and couldn't see where most of them appied to an assessment for hormone therapy - and they were expensive. :-(

My testosterone levels are within a normal range.

'Normal' can be 250 to 1000, depending on lab. Supplementation to upper normal is frequently beneficial. Can be IM (shots) ~ every 4 wks, transdermal daily or pellets that last 5-6 months. Testosterone level is ~ $50. LH is sometimes done but rarely useful (unless you may have a pituitary tumor).

DHEA may be worth testing - if low it's available OTC. I take maca...

I just looked it up...it's 688 dL/ng

I'll ask the doc, but I suspect he will recommend against it

You're getting old and it sounds like it was an awful lot of sex. It sounds perfectly normal to me.

I mean, you can drug yourself so that you function more often, but testosterone therapy carries risk, and at some point you're going to have to accept that age has limits.

I have to laugh...yes I am almost twice your age, but I wouldn't call myself old.

Who is to say a man in his 50s can't function the same as one in their 20s. In many respects, I am a much better lover than I was in my twenties.

You are correct, testosterone therapy carries risks - that why are started this thread - it would be good to hear from someone that has gone through/uses the therapy.

:)I've been on testosterone replacement therapy for a little over a year now. I use a testosterone gel, which you rub in every day. My sex drive bottomed out, and when I checked with the doc, my levels were really low. A trip to the specialist, and the therapy started, and I'm doing some better. Still need to work at the arousal stage to get started, but from there, DISNEYLAND!!! If your levels are good, don't monkey with the therapy. I thought I was going through puberty again for the first couple of weeks, with mild acne, and zits. A fascinating by product though, is that my muscle mass has increased, and my weight has gone down some. I haven't tried the Viagra and Cialis yet, since the docs want to see where the testosterone levels put me when they level out. They say I'll likely be on this for the rest of my life, but, y'know, it could be worse.

no ethical doctor is going to put you on testosterone therapy if you have normal test. levels.

and anything you buy over the counter does NOT work, and could actually backfire and increase your estrogen levels. About 5-6 years ago the FDA banned all pro-hormones and pro-steroids (not the same as anabolic steroids) from the market, so nothing out there works. Including tribulus.

On day 4, you were just tired. You're not 18 anymore. Get used to it.
