So the boat ran out of gas and you had to propel it manually?

That has unfortunately occurred once. Luckily friends were fishing the same dam and towed us back in. Cost Tom a bottle of rum.

Really nothing I don't like about fishing.

Too true. There's always a shady bay when things are slow and plenty of ways to distract ourselves.

It's a lovely little part of the world. I'm really grateful at the moment for the solitude and wide open spaces. Plus we're fairly sustainable in a crisis. We butcher our own sheep and poultry and there's room to garden.

Amen to that! I've heard some talk that they're reconsidering the closing of the local waterways and dams in certain circumstances. Until they clarify i don't want to risk the fine. I'll dig around and see if i can find some old pics for now.

Jealous of your weather and the crayfish. I'm pretty stubborn, i'll stretch out the pool use as long as i can without taking someones eye out with stray nips.

Tom got this yella.

We got a lot of smaller bass but this keeper was fun to pull in.

And out of eight traps, only one hadn't been raided by fucking share-farmers.

Would love to catch the buggers in the act some time.

Speaking of catching the buggers... We've been losing the odd turkey lately and i finally pegged this twerp. Tom's been teaching me to shoot and i'm really enjoying success on targets but hunting is a different thing altogether. I prefer my .22 to his cannon. It's loud as hell.

It changes with the water levels too. Simple recipe though, find the thermocline, find where it meets some structure and you find the fish. I've been learning how to read the fish finder. We've just got a new one with side view.

We were lucky enough to go out with an old local fella who showed us some of his favourite spots.

There should be much more hunting if ferals such as foxes, rabbits, cats, dogs, pigs, deer etc.

It's more to just protect our stock at the moment. Tom likes to hunt feral deer. They taste awesome.
