how do you do smilies?

On the top of the page click 'Quick links' and then 'Edit options'. Scroll down to miscellaneous options, and change 'Basic Editor - a simple text box' to ' Standard Editor - extra formatting controls'. Click save changes, and hopefully your smilies will be there.
