Terra Nova (OOC)

[The Jeffinator]

In the not-to-distant future, human space explorers have discovered an Earth-like planet which they dub "Terra Nova." Our characters are the first team of settlers sent to the new planet on a three-year assignment to explore and map the landscape. However, a few weeks into our stay, the computer detects a massive explosion near Earth, after which we lose all contact with human civilization. There are no detectable life signs left in the Sol system, and the area is too unstable with debris and radiation to safely return in our ship to see first-hand. We are trapped, alone, with nowhere to go. The weeks drag on into months as we attempt to make a life for ourselves on Terra Nova, which is complicated by the discovery of highly-intelligent subterranean vampire-like creatures who are mortal enemies with the cat/elf people who live in the forests.

This story can go a number of ways, and we can also eventually return to Earth once the radiation clears up to see what happened -- maybe we find that the radiation had mutated humans to such a point that they no longer registered as life signs on the computer.
