Term Limits

The bigger problem I have is that neither party has a complete package I agree with and I hate voting for the lesser of two evils.

I want a politician that believes in protecting ALL of the bill of rights and not just pick and choose. I want somebody that is financial responsible and socially liberal.

I want to own a guy, practice whatever religion I choose, not give a shit ton of money in taxes, be free to love and marry who I want and neither party does that.

Well in reality people like that don't exist in reality. The Bill of Rights is something that as much as people pretend they agree with it when push comes to shove it's hard to find anybody who truly buys all that. It's past time we updated the Constitution.

But you'll never find that guy. I recommend you find a Leprachaun riding a winged unicorn shitting rainbows into Narnia.

That said we could reinstate Fusion Ballots, I doubt either party would be down with it but it would help

People like that do exist. In fact most of my friends think similar to that. I feel a lot of people do. We want fair taxes, govt out of our bedroom, our rights protected and to lower our debt. Problem is no politician that will run on that message. I was just trying to have open discussion of ideas. No need to be condescending of my beliefs.

I don't think that there's too much for Americans to vote on... those issues are actually very important. Suppose you vote for someone to get a local school board position. Ten or twenty years down the line... that person might be a superintendent. Ten years after that... and they're possibly on the short list for a major state or national educational position.

It all goes back to educating the public.

Probably... So let me educate you on something.

I graduated over a decade ago with a very-high GPA each year, & also cumulatively. Even if I remembered everything I was ever taught (which I'd never claim I did), there was one thing I never saw: The things the teacher saw. If there was something they saw they were supposed to teach me they personally disagreed with, I probably wasn't taught it. Likewise, if my younger relatives were in school next week & the Science books were old enough to say Pluto was a planet, here's hoping the teacher knows better than to teach that, but no guarantees.

That's why I personally have appointments with several different doctors in any given week, & half the people in my cell-phone's "Contacts" list start with "Dr.", but I may be the only one in my family outright refusing to believe a decade-plus-old diagnosis, & refusing the insistence of something given by people Google claims are "specialists" in a given area...

Whether you have a doctorate or are a high-school dropout (neither is me), you know what you know, no more & no less.

Which is why (I believe it's contrary to my previous posts in this thread) term limits make no difference, since any person or group can potentially make the same number of mistakes with the same amount of effect on others in a week as another can in a decade.

I don't mean to be condescending. I mean to be honest and blunt. People make these claims but the people I hear howling the loudest about Constitutional Rights are utterly silent on Gitmo. Which is a grave violation of the Constitution. They are against Iran (and Muslims in general) getting the bomb. Again violation of the Constitution (Remember the Bill of Rights doesn't grant rights. It assumes you already have them and prevents the government from taking them away. So as far as we're concerned everybody in the world has the right to any weapon they want by virtue of being born. Most of us agree that your freedom of speech ends when it's less than convenient for me. IE you can hold your rally sure, but get all the proper permits and find an out of the way place. You can't rally on the freeway and stop me from getting to work. Though they have a Constitutional Right to rally, you don't have a Constitutional Right to use the road. Frankly if they DID block the roads the issues would get dealt with one way or another a lot faster. I could could go through all the rights in the same way.

I find it kinda scary that most of your friends agree with you 100% by the way. I've never found a human being that I agree with that often. Usually tops out around 70 or so.

Good to go then. I just have a habit of asking people to show their work when they make claims that I don't buy. And I did believe you I just thought the sample size was small. But you're a good guy and I respect you and honestly there are plenty on the board that I don't dislike, a few that I like (outside of certain behaviors) but only a few I respect as genuine good and honest people.

Thanks, dude. I appreciate that.

I try to do research before making a point, just so I'm sure I'm not talking completely out of my ass. ;)

I think you're a good guy, too. I've seen you admit an error before, which is something you don't see too often here. I respect that. It shows your honest.

What we usually see here is lots of name calling, etc.

I generally do my research or try to remember to label something as, I think or in the case of something like your statement about the ages I would have said I assume and if someone showed their work gone 'oh well'.

I'm not pretending I'm above the name calling but I try to keep it to a minimum and not post unless there is something to add besides just the name calling.

I just said similar, not 100%. :) It's all good. I like discussing the differing views on it and discussing issues with people I've never spoken with or had the chance to learn from.

Fair enough. You'll find that around here I'm about as close to friendly as it gets. . .okay I'm lying. Ally Rose is a far better person than I am. But I'm far from evil I think most people would tell you. Even if I am blunt and honest.

I think I'm pretty easy to get along with.

Most of the time I rate people by whether or not I'd like to have a drink with them.

Term limits are the cats meow! Term limits make sure that Obama will have to limit his destruction of this country to 8 years. Why would that be a bad idea for the congress and the senate? Pay the folks who get elected 5 million a year with term limits and I bet we would see some pretty competent people running this country in no time. The personal domain and fortunes these long term politicians amass now is nothing but asinine. That is intuitively obvious to even the most casual observer.

It used to be that state legislature chose senators, and it was the house's job to speak for the people. Now, the two parts of congress pretty much do the same thing.

The system has been corrupted and a term limit band-aide ain't gonna fix that.

just a big government law to limit the freedoms of the voter to determine who will represent them and for how long. Not a solution and would likely promote increased graft and influence of lobbying firms as elected representatives would have greater incentive to make nice with their next employers knowing that their terms were going to end at a specific point. No need to even pretend to be answerable to the voters

How is it limiting his destruction of the country when the inheriting geek destroyed it in the prior 8?! Stupid un-retired Floridians should've shortened Dumb-yeahs's term length due to "special" (around here they say "developmentally disabled") situations.
