Terence Blanchard

Yes, Very Haunting

Lovely. Haunting, as I suppose a requiem should be.
Tightly integrated with the strings . . . . the rhythm section is very restrained, but very present.

As I mentioned above, Blanchard is coming to Detroit for Labor Day--I can't wait

Labor Day

The whole thing is like that. Just beautiful.

Hell, I wish! When is it?

Three days of pure bliss.

So very cool to be with others of our ilk. Eyes closed, heads bobbing and grooving. This year I'm doing all three days.

Despite what some have said, the downtown area is very nice. Let me know if you make the drive up.

I definitely will. Lady P and I have a long weekend...

Regarding Terence Blanchard

Dear Mr. P,

I take it you enjoy Terrance Blanchard. I do as well. However, I can only take him in small doses

Your posting of "A Tale Of God's Will" was wonderful. A very insightful and reflective piece

I'm curious, have you are listened to his 25th Sound Track? Is it me, but isn't there a lot of similarity?

BTW, I very fond of "Sleeping is Naturelle" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeaMvdoLjuk

Just downloaded it, feeding it to my Nano. Good lookin' out. ;)
We bought it on a whim at the Montreal Jazz Fest. I just finally got around to listening to it.

Such formality!

I don't really know his stuff well. I more sort of know "of him" and that I like what I've heard. I'm going to have to listen to more. This has been wonderful mood-music background stuff tonight.

Formal? Me, I'm laid back.

I'm a big Gerry Mulligan Fan

We've moved on here to Gerry and Chet.

Be sure to check out Mulligan's Quarttet CD w/ Paul Desmond http://www.amazon.com/Quartet-Gerry-Mulligan/dp/B0000046RP/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1281498064&sr=1-9

Not overly fond of Mr. Baker and I know that he and Mulligan did a lot together. However, do make a point of listening to Miles Davis At Last "A Night In Tunisia" with Max Roach --it will blow you away

You Should Have Been There

Along the river and among young lions, Terrance splayed open his soul. It was the sound of God’s laughter.

The Detroit International Jazz Festival is in full swing. Terence Blanchard music must be heard to be believed. His music articulates compassion, concern and generosity. It touched my soul and made it whole.

Terence and his young band played to the throngs of Detroit tonight and wowed them with pieces from CDs Choices and A Tale Of God's Will (A Requiem for Katrina).

Last two CD's will blow you away. Do check out Blanchard's web site.

The drummer (Kendrick Scott) was fabulous and the kid on bass--amazing! Only eighteen years old and attending Juillard this fall--Joshua Crumbly is a gift from God

Heya :)

Now turn around so I can finish with a nice rim-job :p

I don't know how that would fit in with the above mentioned music. I would think a bit of tongue teasing and a tango would be more in order.

i shall, for sure.

Joshua Crumbly? now there's a name not easy to forget. :)

More Detail

i shall, for sure.

Joshua Crumbly? now there's a name not easy to forget. :)

Scott on drums is worth the price of admission alone. When Blanchard introduced Scott, he stated that he isn't a drummer, rather a composer and musician that continually challenges the group. He didn’t keep time—he expanded the time space continuum.

Brice Winston is a New Orleans resident of seventeen years that has moved back to Tucson, AZ due to Katrina. Besides touring with Blanchard, he’s now the Creative Director of the newly formed Tucson Institute of Jazz. See: http://www.bricewinston.com/

On piano and keyboard is Fabian Almazan from Havana Cuba. Fabian has the soft touch of Gil Evans and lyrical styling of Brad Mehldau. Words can’t describe the soundscapes he created. Do check out: See: http://www.fabianalmazan.com/home.html

Finally, this skinny eighteen year old kid on bass, Joshua Crumbly. He’s nibble, agile and oh so articulate. Blanchard kidded that they couldn’t play late as they had to get Joshua to bed on time—he had to fly back to New Year for his classes at Julliard.

Here's Crumbly fronting his own group: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsMB_n7HxeM
