Tell me about your experiences with online hook up sites…

Are the online hookup sites real? Are they bot fed waste of money?

Bot fed waste of money. Males outnumber females by 10 to 1, and out of those 1 out of ten women, only one out of ten of them is NOT a bot or a scammer. (So in other words it's really more like 100 to 1 when you factor that in.)

Now I suppose there are some more legitimate dating sites where they screen members more carefully, but those tend to be more costly, and aren't geared so much to "hookups" as to people looking for long term relationships with, you know, commitment. Which is great; nothing wrong with that at all. But, most of my experience with the "Free" online hookup or dating sites has been as described above.

I've had experiences from Craigslist, silverdaddies and backpage back in the day when it was still online.

I had some success with Gumtree, when they had personal ads. Still loads more men than women.

When I tried pay sites, using the "Free to join" option I was inundated with messages - which of course I had to pay to reply to. So tried signing up with different postcode and no info in my profile (enough random letters to hit character limit) and still was inundated with messages from suposedly local women whom "loved" my profile and couldn't wait to meet. At which point I bailed

Does Tinder count? I mean, they were all lackluster….one was a great lay but found the amount of books I had to be “weird.” The second ended up being too insecure to handle the fact he was just a hook up for me as well (because how can a girl NOT fall in love after sex ).

I think some would say Adultfriendfinder is legit. It’s a whole family of ‘friendfinder’ offshoots so I would think for profits and increasing membership in the competitive online personals marketplace that it would be better than the other ones. But then it’s a premium one too. Where the ones that are mentioned I would imagine are the freebies.

I seriously miss Craig’s List though. That was the funniest thing to read through those ads.

I guess they’ve got personals here too. But it seems pretty weak sauce.

They do have some personals here but it's a pretty small pool and the chance of finding someone local to you are likewise pretty small.
But as with all personals site, the odds are much more in your favor if you are female.

I just dont like the controlling aspect of communication. It just doesn’t sit well with me. But i guess that is the business model that works for them. It seems like “the women” get some sort of kickback on the old bait and switch routine to get you to subscribe to various websites my experience….
