Futuristic... SciFi... death and mayhem... yet written for teen aged girls?

Would a man's man like me enjoy the books? I don't do movies until they come on OnDemand because I don't like to sit in the dark with strangers, but I understand young girls are already waiting in line for tickeys.

Well, I'm far from the target demographic of these books, but I read a lot of Young Adult fiction, and the first two books in the Hunger Games trilogy are some of the best that I've read. Well written with interesting characters, great plot, lots of action and suspense...good stuff.

I'm not lining up for tix to the movie, but I'll definitely be going just to see how they interpreted the book for the big screen.

Oh, I also recommended the books to a friend/coworker who is a reader but doesn't normally read books like this. He loved the first book and he's a bit older than me and I would describe him as a "man's man" type. :)

i read my child's copies.

easy reads. well-written.

and like a lot of fantasy/science fiction, explores the conflict between citizens and government.

I like SciFi.

And because I'm a giver, there's a trilogy starting with "The Unincorporated Man" that everyone here simply must read. The best set I've read since the Peter Hamilton books.

Read the synopsis for this, seems interesting. It'll go in my list. Thanks.

And no I haven't read the hunger games books, but they are on my list too. My daughter's reading them now, so I'll get them soon.

Any man's man who says tickeys will love this book.

I will check our your book recommendation, thanks.

Hmmm...sounds intriguing. Thanks for the recommendation.

And my TBR list grows ever longer. :)

I've read them. I did enjoyed them.
I'm 32, never been the typical "teenage" girl that I guess you're referring to and to be honest- I loathe romance novels. And yes- I will see the film too.

Hey Mrs Gobble.... I don't want to piss off Mr. Pergy, but is it okay if I tell you you're looking good nowadays.........;)

I read the trilogy over the President's Day week-end. I was so depressed after finishing them.

Once you suspend your reality and buy into the fact that the wealthy, for their own benefit, set up a lottery where the general populace send their children out to kill or be killed, the role that those same children play unknowingly into the machinations of the wealthy, and how the children are left to deal with the resulting physical and mental scars that are left...

Oh. Wait.

It has a strong female lead, even if a bit naive. That's the draw for the younger girls. It's set up to play out as a reality show. It's very creative in how to kill using odd technology.

Fairly two dimensional unless you have a political opinion about war. Then, based on your own point of view, it takes on a whole different meaning.

I don't know if you would enjoy it. I didn't. But I couldn't stop turning the pages.

Why Pergy'd be pissed off? You'd think he'd be jealous of your compliment to me?

So I'm gathering that I shouldn't read the books. There's a lot of brew-ha-ha over it though. I thought it might be a cross over fad like the vampire books were (which I didn't read either)

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew. no, no, no, no! It's NOTHING like eeky vampire books

Mrs Gobble, we'll have to ask Pergy. But maybe not tonight, 'cause he's pissed.

Always loved you in that hat....
Well, what's between you and Pergy- should stay between you and Pergy, I have no intentions of interfering or inquiring about your love affairs ;)
Thank you, though :rose::)

A friend in his late 40s recommended them to me. I loved them. I thought the demographic was supposed to be all youth. They were very quick reads and not teeny bopper stuff. More post apocalyptic survival of the fittest.

im really into reading the cheesy romance novels type books so when my friend suggested to read HG, i was a bit wary cos it definitely does not fall into that genre.

i read them over the xmas break, and i COULD NOT STOP. seriously. i read almost the entire first book overnight because i couldnt put it down. anyways. i have my tickets for next friday already, but not cos i'm some teeny who's obsessed. i just really wanna see how well they translated it into a movie. and cos i have the day off lol

and i dont understand why ppl are such snobs about reading books to begin with. i mean, who cares what you're usually into? pick up the book, start reading it. if you dont like it, put it down and move on! it's as simple as that really. borrow the first one from the library or a friend, and make your decision from there.

I just turned 41 and I loved the first two books. Started reading the final one, but I don't want it to end....:(

Mrs Gobble, I just checked to see if you had your hat photo on your profile...
...But alas, 'twas not there....................;)

you can read the first book in a day. Better use of time than posting here.
