Word is Trump did offer his first nomination to Cruz, but that Cruz isn't attracted to the quiet, sort of non-political monasteric life a Justice is expected to lead, instead preferring to be a vocal player via his Senate seat.

He's up for Senate reelection for six more years in 2018, and if Trump doesn't decide to run for reelection in 2020, or is in danger of not being reelected in 2020, Cruz will be 50 years old and ready to take another stab at that.

Cruz is a leading proponent of Congressional term limits.
