Israel needs to have peace on its borders. When they withdrew from Gaza 20 years ago, the hope was that the Gazans would choose peaceful coexistence. October 7th shattered that illusion. Whatever happens next in Gaza, Israel will not allow it be rebuilt into an armed bunker.

This may be a distasteful analogy, but the small groups of humans always killed waaaaay more zombies in the movies compared to the number of casualties the zombies inflicted on the small groups of humans.

And the zombies vastly outnumbered the humans (much like Arabs / Muslims VASTLY outnumber Israeli Jews). So, yeah, the Israelis DO “have reason to fear Gazans” (when one considers the Arab / Muslim threat to Israel in its totality), just like the small groups of humans had “reason to fear” the swarms of zombies.



Another reality is the fact that the aggressors in any war usually suffer disproportionate losses compared to the defenders (See also: Russian losses in Ukraine).

Israel has always had the policy of minimizing their civilian casualties. The enemy has tried to maximize theirs, with the result being what you see in this graph.

For example, even though Israel has the Iron Dome antimissile system, they have plenty of air raid shelters for civilian to use when there are rocket attacks. Despite Gaza having hundreds of miles of “defensive” tunnels, none of them were used as civilian bomb shelters.
