Hey all,

I live in a small town with a shakey at best power grid. With all the rain and storms we are getting my power keeps flickering and the compy shuts down about half the time it does. I'm trying to work on a word document, but every time I get zapped, I loose much of what I have written since the last zap.

Is there any way to set it to auto save more often?

I'm sure there is a way to set autosave more often, although I'll leave it to people more knowledgeble about Word to cover that point.

I would also recommend getting an uninterruptable power supply (or UPS) for your computer if you're able. In the US, they aren't that expensive, and they have a battery in them that will keep your computer and monitor running normally for a long enough period of time that you can save your work and shut down your computer normally without any worries that you'll lose anything or damage your computer.

Perhaps you already know about that option, but as someone who has semi-regular power outages in the winter months especially, I find my UPS to be a lifesaver at times.

Yes. While in Word, go to Tools > Options. Flick to the "Save" tab and there's an option in there that allows you to change the autosave from the default setting of 10 minutes. ;)

To change the save interval for automatic file recovery:
Got to the Tools menu
click Options
click the Save tab
Select the Save AutoRecover info every check box.
In the minutes box, specify how often (minutes) you want your Word program to save files.

thanks Richard & Lauren :)

I detest having to rewrite paragraphs from memory that flowed from the characters.

In MS Word 97, it's Tools -> Options -> "Save" tab.

You have to have a document open for the Options dialogue to be active, but I believe changes are kept in NORMAL.DOT so changes will be thedefult for a new document tht uses the Normal.dot template.

For other versions of Word, check Help -> Index -> autosave -> "set autosave interval" -> display topic.
