"Teaching the Tutor" and Stupidity

Today, kittikat1977 sent in a revised version of her story which included the following foreword:

***This is just a story, a work of fiction and nothing more. It resulted from a class I took and I don't endorse, condone or promote rape. It's a sick, sick thing and no woman or man wants to be raped. It's just a story, so lighten up with the hate mail.***

A hint for readers: if a story is in the NONCONSENT category, if it has (as it did) a warning note at the beginning of the story denoting the fact that there was NONCONSENTUAL sex within the story, and you personally find NONCONSENTUAL SEX to be offensive, then I can't think of anything more moronic than you reading the whole story and then send hate mail about what a horrible person she is for writing a NONCONSENT story. THE STORY WAS NOT MEANT FOR YOU - it was meant for people who enjoy that topic. Harassing the author when she has done everything short of driving to your house and spray painting "THIS STORY HAS A RAPE SCENE IN IT" on your monitor is unfair, rude, and ignorant.

Argh. People just amaze me sometimes.

Yep. The readers must be getting dumber because I had a similar note at the beginning of Hostile Takeover and no one has ever sent me hate mail regarding the non-consentual aspect. (As a matter of fact, I was just telling someone tonight that I've never gotten any hate mail at all.) So, I just assumed that people read the note and back-clicked if they weren't interested. I know non-consent isn't everyone's cup of tea.

"I think you're sick to write about rape. Although I like the way you tell a story, I was disgusted by the subject. Please go back to writing incest."

There is no way to respond to that letter. I've tried 20 times.

those hate mailers are the kind who probably think it's all right to 'have relations' with their barnyard animals just so long as you ask 'em first and don't force yourself on them.

death threats

I received death threats over a version of "A Goth Grrrl's Screams" I posted at White Shadow's Nasty Stories. It bore a tag that said it was a rape story.

So, this person went to a site with "Nasty Stories" as part of the name, opened up a story with a "rape" tag and the word "Screams" in the title and proceeded to be shocked by the content. So much so, that the person threatened my life a few times. It was also obvious from the content of the e-mails that the person had read every word of the story--probably more than once.

Somedays I really have my doubts about whether natural selection is working within our species.

I personally prefer the hate mail feedback to the complimentary feedback. I think I just enjoy rattling people's cages.

After all, hate mail is so much more emotional and interesting than "Hi. Loved you story, can't wait until part two."

Hence you won't find any tags on my stories.

Hello to darkness_descending. "A Goth Grrrl's Screams" has been one of my favourite stories on White Shadows. It's nice to see the author here.

Regarding hate mail - every reader brings something different to a story. I had a parent on the phone once ranting and raving about a novel we read. It has domestic violence as a main theme and I thought this was her issue. There is one short scene in the novel where a rabbit is trapped. She thought it was disgusting to have a novel with cruelty to animals in the reading list. Go figure.

I don't receive any hate mail but I do get readers who think I am an expert on the topic I write about. For example, after "Whipping At Lupercalia" I received a number of letters asking what sort of whips hurt most/left no marks etc. etc. I directed them to BDSM sites. LOL.

I have a friend who is a successful author of good clean family novels. Her political affiliations however are well known. She receives hate mail all the time. Nothing to do with the content of her actual writing. Some people just like to vent. LOL. Life is short. Don't worry about those who have to find reasons to be angry. Be happy.

heh. I got bitched out for putting a character in my story that smokes. I don't smoke myself and don't like the idea of smoking, but it fit the character, who is a very rough hewn and jaded man who is depressed. I got royally bitched out for this. On top of that, the emails were fromt he same person, about 10 emails with the same writing style and sentance structure and no punctuation. They were all annonymous.

Me thinks some people just.....

I think some people have so much hate in them they go looking for people to send their inner hate to. I feel sorry for them. Like we had this guy at work once that always looked at the bad side of everything. At first I would avoid him like the plague then I realized his problem was his problem and didn't spar with him any more. He just liked to argue and be on the wrong side of any issue. People who send hate are full of it them selves. I'm too busy enjoying life to listen to the hateful people. I have a very good hate filter on my email!!! (trash bin)
