Teaching Characters a Lesson!

Maybe we should err on the side of assuming that everyone else is bringing up stuff they consider relevant and then we can all just talk about whatever we find relevant enough to discuss.

I like making characters that I like suffer, sometimes even especially if they don't deserve it.

But then I like making characters who deserve it suffer too sometimes. Characters are often just more interesting when they suffer.

I do think narratives often demand some degree of comeuppance for the characters involved. It always bothered in, in Ghost Busters, how the con artist main character never really has to absolve himself for his misdeeds outside of just doing what his teammates are also doing.

BTB stands for "Burn the Bitch." For some reason, the Loving Wives category has a very high percentage of stories that are not about swingers, cuckholds, or open marriages, but about women who cheat on their husbands. The stories don't focus on erotic sex, but on revenge taken against the cheating woman. There is a large contingent of readers in that category who get very angry if the cheating woman is not "taught a lesson." The comments authors get if the "bitch" isn't "burned" are legendarily caustic and sometimes vile.

It gets pretty dark, but to be clear, it's not whole category. It seems to be divided between the BTB crowd and the people who enjoy erotica about voluntary cuckolding or swinging. The BTB contingent is just much louder.

In my second PTA Queen Bee & Teen Rebel lesbian story Todd, a fat bully so stupid that he thinks about himself in the third person gets his ass kicked by an angry college guy and some jocks for bullying younger kids and taking their food and for hiding in the girls' toilets when a group of cheerleaders are in there, the cheerleader captain and most popular girl in high school suffering a severe stomach upset. He ends up having to walk around with one of his sister's tampons up his nose to stem the bleeding.
