Tea up

I have my Coffee in the morning. (A personal Blend of Jamaican Blue Mountain and Kona. The Beans are stored in the Freezer and pulled out a few scoops at a time.)

Ugh. While I enjoy Kona, the Jamaican Blue Mountain reminds me of 10W-30.

Freedom presses make good coffee, but they're finicky to use.

I love Souchong, though my wife does not understand the appeal.

Coffee! It's taste bud abuse...

Tea with a bit of Sugar Raw and milk... ah the memories. If I need something with a jolt I'll have Barry's Gold. Otherwise there's only one tea worth drinking Twinnings Prince of Wales!

My FIL grandfather used to say. "Boy your taste is all in your mouth." Anyone who disagrees with me lacks even that. ;)

I like Turkish coffee enough to have learned to make it, which is more than I can say for any other form of coffee. Most coffee is too acrid for my taste, but I found a nice mellow blend that makes lovely thick dark Turkish stuff. It was really the beer issue all over again; I kept trying lighter and lighter versions trying to find one I liked, then realized that I was a Guinness drinker. ;)

Tea? I'll drink anything that isn't fruity. I like peppermint tea iced - extremely refreshing - or hot, and Earl Grey and lapsang souchang and what have you. The SO and I do have an aversion to the various raspberry-lemon-grapefruit-giraffe-dander strange combination blends; we're simple folk in the tea department. My parents keep attempting to press guava-orange-mintgrass-lawnclippings or something on the SO, but the SO, like Joe, thinks of "tea" as "PG Tips." That, or the meal that I call "dinner," which from time to time still leads to confusion. ("Would you like some tea?" "Certainly. That sounds lovely." "Great. Let's make it lamb curry." "Have my parents been at you again?")

I have a bunch of loose-leaf tea of all varieties, most of which I don't drink. I want to like green tea but I really don't. I drink black tea. Sometimes I brew it properly with the kettle and the strainer and all that, and other times I just heat some water in the microwave and throw in a tea bag. I do love tea.

I confess that I do have tea bags, but I found this wonderful little spoon sized strainer that I use. Prince of Wales is hard to find and I end up ordering over the internet most of the time. In my culture one drinks coffee, lots of coffee, so I'm not sure how I got hooked on tea. Perhaps I never should have accepted that invitation to high tea...

ROFLOL BIG WET KISS POPS!  and to L also!

Mm. Bell's, the English whisky.
At least, it's made for the English taste.

No self respecting Scot would drink it.
The Famous Grouse however...

What I keep in my drawer is my business

How DID I miss this thread!!

Coffee never passes my lips, I used to drink it constantly, until one day I woke up and just couldn't stand the taste any more...added to which, it now gives me incredible heartburn.

Tea. Now that's another matter.

Lady Grey is my chosen brew...and I'm not snobbish enough to knock tea bags. I rarely use leaf tea now, unless I have a large group of people - very few of my acquaintances drink Lady Grey. Early Grey yes, which I also have, along with ordinary English Breakfast which I keep for 'normal' tea drinkers.

Because of problems with my gall bladder, I unfortunately have to restrict myself to one cup of Lady Grey a day, first thing in the morning. For the rest of the day, I am advised to drink Camomile Tea instead - 5 or 6 cups a day. Its definitely an acquired taste, insipid was my first reaction but I perservered and now I rather like it.

I also keep a selection of fruit teas for friends, as well as peppermint which I HATE.

A couple of teas that the wife brought with her from Az, which you can't get here...and I have a bag of loose leaf green tea to try - one day - a gift from my eldest on a recent holiday in Tunisia. It scares me.

As for the other tea......High Tea/Tea (meaning dinner or supper), Afternoon Tea, (which usually means a light repast of tea (the drink), sandwiches, English muffins, crumpets and small delicious cakes.....and of course, Cream Tea. * yummmmm* I finally introduced the gosling and her parents to Cream Tea during their visit here. They kind of enjoyed it, but the word 'clotted' when referring to the cream rather worried the gosling, and still does. Personally, I think its the food of the gods. *sigh*

Coffee: For some people it's the ritual, for me it's the caffeine.

I aspire to be Italian (for no other reason than I think their lifestyle is cool). So I studied the home life of my Italian friends, with ballpoint pen and clipboard: Here's how they (and I, in imitiation) have their morning coffee.

First off, they use one of those little Moka Express machines, (few peole have espresso machines, mainly becasue they're never as good as the big, super-expensive ones you see in every cafe). They use high-street bought Illy or Lavazza coffee (both equally popular).

Caffe Latte is drunk only first thing in the morning. After that its espresso (or espresso macchiato, (which means "stained caffe ") with a dash of cold milk, if you're gay or a woman).

The key is to minimize the water content. Watery coffee is just not drunk anywhere. If they want it weak, they add a lot of hot milk.

Additional tip (from my Italian friends): Put in a small piece of dark (bittersweet) chocolate (for espresso or regular coffee).

I'm rather a Picardian (tea, earl grey, hot) or Sainsbury's Red Label man myself - need my caffeine shot in the morning though.
