Just a "Need to Know" thread.....I absolutely need to know what each and every one of you takes as their first drink of the day.
Feel free to either wax lyrical about your beverage of choice, or be as laconic as you please.

Bear in mind that the board won't let you just say Tea.....last time I tried to get away with a 3 letter reply to a post the boardbot heavies tromped me with the utmost urgency. They hastened to enlighten me that the forum don't like answers that contain less than 5 letters/characters.

I am guessing that most people would drink one or the other as their first drink, but I did once discover that a friend's first daily drink of choice was vodka... to each their own.

If I can figure out how to make this a poll, I will aim for just 4 choices...
Tea
Coffee

Never drink anything in the morning.

Coffee.

Gotta have it.

Wish I could quit, but then... I wouldn't have my coffee! :(

Espresso - only one I do normally and then I go to water and herbal teas.

Most mornings it's coffee, say 60% of the time. The rest is divided equally between tea and milk :D

Coffee. I think a shot of V-8 juice is good too pre-coffee. Just to get something healthy in the body first.

If I MUST be up for the morning, I like decaf coffee.

If it's a leisurely morning and I can have my fantasy, perfect breakfast for which I'm hungry, it would not be just one beverage but many. I'd have coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice, milk and water in little quantities.

:rose:

Tea

It replaced the blood running through my veins many moons ago. Once I am awake...coffee time...and I better not be able to see through it!

Humm, it depends on my mood. I think I sway more towards tea than coffee. My moods go on for a few days, so it might be 4-5 days of non-stop coffee, then like 7-10 days of tea, but I'd have to take a month or so and actually count before I could say definitively.

Said with much beverage affection, "coffee slut" reporting for duty

Coffee

With my increasingly erratic sleeping patterns, live would not be possible without coffee. And it tastes so good. Prefer it hot and sweet and creamy but will drink it any way I can get it. Mmm... think I will go get a pot brewing.

last year or so has been coffee/with milk ... lot of coffee (possibly expresso)
before that was yogurt/milk/green tea
before that was coffee (black)
before that was milk (cold, plain)

mmmm ... every few years it seems to changes ...

My first drink in the morning is whatever just happens to be in the fridge. If I had to choose between coffee or tea, it would be tea.

Vodka Martini

Firstly, thank you all for your replies.

 That early morning vodka is obviously more prevalent than I had thought....

Other than that the thing that surprised me most was the sheer number of coffee supporters.

For me the first drink has to be Tea...it acts on me like a jump-start on a flat battery. Before those first sips have gone down, I am a churlish and grumpy presence, brooding, melancholy and grim. Afterwards a being full of sweetness and light, fit to roam the Earth dispensing laughter and happiness (or pain and misery, to each their own :D )

I have tried coffee and even fruit juice first, but they only relieve thirst, never have the effect on my soul that tea has.

I am and have always been a total tea addict, possibly my Irish ancestry. I used to take it strong, very sweet, with milk....until a schoolfriend bet me a shilling (dating myself now) that I couldn't give up sugar in tea for a week. That week was enough to break me of the habit of taking 3 spoons of sugar in tea and I have always taken tea unsweetened since then. At least I was also a shilling richer! (nowadays 5p/10c...then a load of cash to a schoolboy)

I can only do without the milk if the tea is exceptionally good quality, something that most brand leader teas seem to lack. I also like almost any variety of tea, with the notable exception of Lapsang Souchong....to me that tea always reminds me of burnt toast, yech.

lol, going to shut up now, thanks all

either oj (i don't mean Simpson) or something with cranberry juice in it. i would really love manjuice! :D

Coffee with full cream milk and two sugars for me. I need the caffeine and the sugar rush to wake me up
