Okay - Have you all filed yet, good little boys and girls? Did you use a company? Did you do it yourself? Did you do it electronically? Did you do it by hand?

Excel makes it pretty easy... as long as you know how to plug all of those formulas in. One nice thing about using Excel (or similar program) is that you can quickly see what effect a change will have (e.g. what if you had two kids instead of one or whatever).

Did my own {I'm an accountant :) }. Filed the plain old paper forms sent thru the mail. Sent a check with it; the amount of which makes me ill to think about. :(

H&R Block did mine, and the money was spent to pay for my divorce.

Cool huh?

Actually, my response was:

Oh, fuck! Another goddamned thing I gotta do before long....

But I just voted no.

I filed the government taxes electronically...

And the state taxes by tele-file...

And it was soo easy! H & R Block ripped me off last year!

Wiggles... how did they rip you off? This is the second year I've filed with H&R and they haven't fucked up my taxes yet...

Well, they didn't fuck up my taxes... But I bought the program for internet filing for forty bucks, and I can use it again and again....

H & R Block made me pay a hundred, and that's only for one filing.
It's really not their fault that I didn't know a thing about taxes last year, I was just suprised at how easy it is.

With my simple taxes, I just don't need to hire someone to do them.

Got my 1099R on Jan 2, got my forms in the mail Jan 13, filled out the forms in 15 minutes, bought stamp and mailed the forms Jan15, spent refund in mid-Feb.

Just a note about H&R Block.

They did mess up my taxes one year. They got us (I was married) over $500 that the state of SC said that we were not supposed to have. Counting penalties and late charges,it ended up being almost a $1000 when I was through repaying it.

Come to find out,if you dont shell out for the insurance that they have, they are not responsible for any errors on the tax returns.

Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow. ;)

I am the queen of procrastination.

LTR- Be glad you didn't bother with the insurance. I personally know 2 people that the same thing happened to, who HAD bought H & R's "insurance". They still refused to pay for the error.

:::::grumbling, why does my b-day have to be right at the end of tax season???? No one ever remembers>

I know what you mean

dancinvixen... my birthday is the week before Christmas!

H&R. To tell you the truth, I've always done my own taxes, by hand, even years that I had to file long forms and split returns and things like that. It's really not that complicated, at least I don't think so. But the husband insists very firmly on using H&R, and I just got sick of arguing against it, so... there you go.

I think they're totally a ripoff. $150 to do our taxes. At least we got a nice chunk of a return this year - direct deposited and already done. Yay.

Des, yeah but that means you get so many more presents. <g> In my family, most everybody forgets my b-day because they realize it's very nearly past time for the taxes to be done and sent in.

I hate to disappoint you sweetie. It doesn't mean that at all. That is the assumption but not the reality... ask any of the Christmas babies. Most of them will tell you the same thing. Everybody is so busy with Christmas, they ignore the birthday and assume that Christmas will make up for it.:rose:

Turbo Tax....received my return in about 10 days from both federal and State. Though I had to hunt down my money as I had it electronically deposited into my checking account, and of course the bank had some kind of mix up!
But all is well, and most of the money is spent!

Color me Strange perhaps.......

but I actually enjoy when the CPA firm that handles both my company and individual tax returns, W-2's, 1099's etc sends me the various forms for approval and signature.

Each year I draw out enough extra in Federal and State to have what "becomes" a paid for trip to Europe in the summer. Yes, I realize I let Uncle Sam use my money for the year instead of me, but when those 2 checks arrive in early March, a big smile crosses my face.
