What can be used for a substitute for a tawse? I'd love to use one on my sub tonight but do not have one handy nor is there a BDSM store near me.

Any help?

You could just use a belt. It's still a piece of leather often used to beat asses. ;)

Yes, find you a wide belt and then cut it down the middle. That's pretty much what a tawse is. Google it for some pictures, so you know how far back to cut the belt.

Thanks DVS...I was thinking along some same lines but being a "newbie" I didn't want to speak out of turn...

Don't worry about speaking out of turn. That's how you get to be an active, community member. ;)

Um. I haven't heard the word tawse since one was used on me in my recalcitrant days at school. The nastier one was called a Lochgelly: it ended in five fingers, not just two. They were used on the hands, held falteringly together.

Of course that was long before corporal punishment was abolished in Scots schools, something few regret.

And the experience of having it used on me failed to bring out any masochistic tendencies that I or my partner are aware of. It just fucking HURT.

It would be hard to find a belt that was anything like most Tawses. To me, a tawse feels more like a paddle than a belt. In a bad way. And marks more like a paddle as well.

Why not just use what's on hand, then go shopping for other fun things later on?

Yes, don't dally too much around here, you're likely to get run over! Post it or step aside for the traffic going by.

No need to worry about speaking out of turn here. Just ask Gracie!!

Yeahhh... I think that was the intention.

However, I'd like to find a nice little tawse to add to my collection. Like one of these, perhaps:

The closest thing I have right now is a riding quirt:

I understand it stings quite well. :D

I have recently acquired a quirt, or should I say we have acquired one, and I can assure you that sting it surely does!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They make rulers that are thin plastic and are super flexible... I'll bet if you cut strips into it might do the trick?

Probably too lightweight. All the tawses I've seen have been fairly thick, dense leather. The weight creates as much (or more) of the sensation as the separate strips, I think. That could make an interesting little (sting-y) spanker, though, I'd think.
