Target says it will close nine stores in major cities, citing violence and theft

Target is closing locations in New York City, Seattle, San Francisco and Portland.
Hmmm, what do they all have in common?

So not because of the underwear? ¯\(°_o)/¯

Well, having a big target sign, for your corporate logo, in a country that is letting any deranged nut have a gun. I'm surprised more stores aren't closing, or getting shot out of business.

Try again when they shut down stores in Chicago Detroit Philly or Baltimore.too.

Botany Boy had an arrest in each of those cities.
Only ended up doing time in San Franscisco as I recall.

That's their claim but it seems to be BS. Why wouldn't we see the same of Walmart a much bigger company? Because the real reason is as more and more people use Amazon for more and more things stores are going to keep shutting down. It will catch Walmart sooner or later but Target and . . .is K-Mart even still around?

Like Amazon, Sears started as a mail-order company. They shifted to brick and mortar locations. They had a good run, but were eventually acquired by Kmart. There are 11 Sears and 3 Kmarts left in America.

So as of two years ago there were two more K-Marts than Blockbusters. Now its a whole three.

Walmart closed its stores in Portland for the same reasons. The place is lawless. Stores are losing millions in theft that they can't stop and get no help with. The cops' hands are tied, and the DA is worthless. I grew up there, and some of my extended family lives there still. I cringe at what the city has become.

What exactly is tying the police's hands. We all know they get away with flat out murder.

I'm not here to debate police brutality, but to tell you the reality of living in a city like Portland. The laws they've put in place do not allow the police to intervene in anything. The stores are told to file a report online. If you want a street level look on the shit show the city of roses has become, follow pdx.real on Instagram. That woman has uncovered more corruption and shed light the disintegration of the city, than any other news outlet

I just took the time to look it up. They tried to reign in the police following the murder of George Floyd and dialed back laws that were clearly targeting them. This is a three year trend not something that has been trending. Sounds just like every where else where the cops have made it clear if they can't be above the law there will be no law.

Yep, you're right. Absolutely. You, a stranger on the internet, non-Portlander, with your PhD in Google, have solved the mystery of why Portland has become such a shit hole. Not the opioid crisis, not the broken county government, not the worthless DA, not even the unique alchemy of our ethos that has brought us to this moment. Thank you for google-ing & solving everything. I'm sure the citizen will be relieved. That crack house next to my mother in law will surely now just *poof* dissappear! You should run for mayor.

Could you post that law for us?

I think its just crazy how a bunch of ppl can go into any store and rob them dry. Just like the smash and grab at Nordstroms in Southern Cali. 30 ppl wearing masks and hoodies all ran into the store and grabbed whatever they could carry out w/ them and were gone in a few mins. That just sickens me. I work hard for my money. I don't / can't afford to pay for these ppls mistakes after they raise the price to cover the costs of these kinds of losses. It's just crap.

The good thing is that most of these people are being arrested (when the authorities even try) in very woke, tolerant and inclusive American-Left enclaves and as such will not be saddled with the indignity of incarceration or any other other form of punishment short of a loving mother's lament, but you're so much better!

Aspire to be like Willy Sutton! Rob Banks! That's where the money is...

Actually, while I think Sean is a toxic piece of shit, I think what he is positing there is an intrinsic piece of the puzzle.

All of those activities that you both enumerate comes from a certain mindset regarding the nature and purpose of law-enforcement.

It's as if we're so concerned about the plight of the criminals who were driven to their actions by our Racist, misogynist, homophobic, gun-toting, intolerant, white-privilege society that we forget that there are victims involved and it's just not the shop owners, but their employees, customers and anyone who would be inclined just to spend an afternoon visiting the city and its shops, bistros, restaurants...,

People are even brawling at sporting events and all the participants are wearing the same jersey!

Whatta country! At this point, I think you have to blame the angst caused by Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift...

The Yachting Club Will Have to Close now!

Burglars have been raiding yachts and houseboats in the Oakland-Alameda Estuary in a surge one resident compared to the pirate movie "Captain Phillips."

They steal anything of value, then either sink the ships or dump the remnants of plundered boats miles away in the Oakland Harbor or along its shorelines, said Dan Hill, who lives on his boat like many other families in the 800-foot waterway.

Each "attack" can cost the owner thousands to tens of thousands of dollars, Hill said.

Some in the tight-knit boating community have talked of arming themselves as jurisdiction question marks and eroding law enforcement staffing levels complicate the issue.

Oh Muffy, what shall we ever do? I thought we "owned" the police1 Why won't they do anything for us now???
