I am currently sitting here watching my video of "A Tribute to Freddie Mercury" and it's blowing my mind that this talent is gone.

I was lucky enough to grow up on the music of Queen, my Dad is a major fan, and when this video came out I just had to buy it. I can tell you I wasn't disappointed at all. Over the last 8 years I have had so much pleasure out of it.

My sister owns just about every piece of Merchandise from this group that has been released here in Australia, all of it in mint condition.

But getting back to the subject. I find it hard to accept that this man, this wonderful entertainer is dead, and from a disease that unless you have seen a close friend or family member go through, you will never fully understand what it does to someone. Yes he was openly Bisexual, and quite proud of that too. I just find it hard that talent such as his had to leave the world early.

Watching this tape and seeing behind the scenes footage is just awesome to me, seeing what he was like away from the stage, he is just as exuberant and that is wonderful.

I was just wondering with all this talk of Music lately, if any of you have a certain music video that means something to you. Not just a clip, a whole tape.

Mine would have to be this one "A Tribute to Freddie Murcury" and my "Cliff em all" tape by Metallica. I love listening to music but, sometimes get this feeling to just sit and watch the groups I love so much.

Okay all fess up, what is your Fav Video that you have seen??

I would have to say that my favorite documentary or should I say Rockumentary is "Spinal Tap". the band is the greatest in the world (just ask them) and the troubles that they have keeping members is way beyond comparison to any other, it is amazing that the 3 original members are still in the band tho:) and YES I do have all of their albums :) My favorite album from them is "Shark Sandwitch" and the song "Big Bottoms". BTW they have a greatist hits album out called "Spinal Tap" and the album is covered all in black (YES Metalica stole this Idea from Spinal Tap). and their latest U.S. Release "Break like the Wind" was pretty good too..

Only the good die young it seems

I bought a video on Mark Heard called "Strong Hand of Love: A Tribute to Mark Heard". He was a very talented musician who not only sung and wrote his own material, but played guitar, mandolin, accordion and harmonica. He died at age 42 I believe it was after being in a coma for weeks after experiencing two heart attacks in 1992 after his last concert. The video is very interesting, but his music and lyrical genius even more so. I own six of his tapes, and the lyrics he writes are extremely deep and heartfelt. His style of writing is similar to Canadian musician Bruce Cockburn, a very "in-your-face" folk/rock almost Bob Dylan kind of approach. It's a shame this man passed on so soon. He was one of the few Christian musicians who knew how to play and write lyrics that really hit home without sugar coating the reality of the real world we live in. Listening to this video does sadden me to know that yet another gifted musician has left us prematurely.

Welllll.......

Music Videos????? I am torn regarding them.

In one of my professions - I have been and will be again - essentially a "film maker." No I haven't made any grand "artistic" pieces - I'm a corporate hack - but I do know how its done, the process and if things changed and allowed me to do so - I'd love to make an artsy film.

That said - I'm a musician too. Here's what bugs me - from a musicians perspective about music videos...... I like performance videos and not much else. I like to see hands playing instruments, people singing, drummers bashing their kits, etc.... I guess most people don't like that. I do not like - flying boxes, video gimmicks and computer stuff - taking away from what I want to see - musicians "playing" the song.

So documentaries with live concert footage is what I prefer. Madonna videos though pretty and interesting (upon first or second viewing) from a filmmaking perspective - pretty much suck.

Queen and Freddy were great.

Phil Keaggy! what a guitarist! Even Hendrix looked up to that guy Re: Glass Harp days with John sferra and Dan Pecchio.
Some of those bands are great Shiraz...not to mention Dan Peek (America) Mark Farner (Grand Funk Railroad) Kerry Livgren (Kansas) Larry Howard (Grinderswitch). All these Christian musicians who have not sold out on their sound. Still putting out great material.
