I can't talk to him in the girl/geek culture thread.

But I'll talk to him here.

Primalex, if you have something to say, I'll carry on a parallel conversation or a new one. 'Sup to you.

Hm.

Big dilemma.

This thread looks more like a Café thread. But "Being a woman in geek culture" is so completely off-topic, too, it should have been moved a long time ago.

It would be discrimination, if I would ask for this thread to be moved but not the geek thread.

It would be injustice, if these threads stay here, while other off-topic threads like "Looking to become 24/7 sex slave" are moved.

And if I ask that satindesires thread gets moved, I'm a sexist who suppresses the voice of women.

*sighs*

And then people say that time travel consequences are difficult to handle.

Okay.

Yeah, I would agree with you in that it doesn't actually have a place here any more than the geek thread, but to move either would be petty en extremis.

I don't feel oppressed. But if you want to have a genuine conversation, I can have it here.

How can "I like person x more than person y" be not personal?

That's the contradiction I'm talking about.

For that I'd have to explain my online ethics, which are not shared by all.

I tend to talk to people, especially if I'm the thread maker. Even or sometimes especially if I feel I'm being trolled. This is not to say that I consider you trolling ME, but I can accept that satindesire feels you are trolling HER.

I didn't start that thread and in this case, it's satin's "house" so to speak and she sets the tone and she sets the rules, regardless of whether or not they're my rules, such as if I were to go to the home of a Japanese person who would ask me out of respect to take my shoes off, I would.

But in my own house I can do whatever I want and I might not necessarily think one way or another about you if you refused to take your shoes off.

But without objective criteria, isn't everything inane?

"Fox News is an impartial television channel."

Is it legal to dismiss this statement in a discussion just because you might consider it inane?

Not everything is inane.

I tend to use humor in my postings to amuse separate from the actual content.

I could dismiss it as uninteresting, but not necessarily inane.

The entire subject is interesting. Fox itself might not be.

I think every news source is biased, and generally for a good reason. So I will draw news from Fox and from other sources that I consider if not AS skewed as Fox, then close enough to not make that much of a difference.

I think you have to triangulate the news and that several points of information give you an opportunity to get a parallax view.

So I value Fox in its own way. Not as a source of unbiased news, but as a source of a possible way to view the news.

I might find a topic interesting in a broader sense than originally intended, or in a narrower sense than originally intended.
