He laughed but tried to speak softly and soothingly, "not exactly, but I guess I could find her?"

It is me Talia, it is Rick

I am so sorry my love, how are you doing?

Rick...

There was a happiness in her groggy dry throat voice.

But she was... how... Why?

She had not realized it was Megan and the dean that had found her or at least she didn't remember at the moment.

I want to go home.

He wasn't sure how he should take this, but he was quiet and gentle

Talia, do you know why you are in here?

It was Megan and the Dean who found you on the street

You were badly rrr...attacked

I wishI could take you home, but the doctors need to release you

Is there anyone else you want me to call?

 

[Asa]

Stairwell... James...

Then she began to stress out and struggle to move any as if getting away from her attacker again.

He... he...

She was shaking from the memories flooding back enough to dislodge a monitor on her sending the nurse running.

It is okay, you are safe now

He whispered

Talia, I am here and I promise no one can get here...my love, I am so sorry....

Try to relax...you are in the hospital...I am here...whatever you need...

He wanted to hold her, but didn't want to frighten her more...he loved her...yet felt so powerless to help

 

[Asa]

I don't want to have to sedate you please listen to him you will be in here for a couple of days that's all and I will go get you some ice chips but listen to you professor here and relax you are safe.

The nurse tried to help soothe her as well.

He watched her, and he had a thought, potentially a bad one, but he didn’t take action, he simply spoke softly

Talia, would you like it if I held you? Would you feel safer? Or do you want to be cuddled there with no one touching you?

He knew this was risky, but she could always say no, which was fine

The bigger issue was how this looked, but he increasingly simply no longer cared

This had been too close, and she was clearly damaged, and he couldn’t stand it

 

[Asa]

She nodded and reached a hand out to him weakly. The nurse smiled.

I will send the dean and the others home you can stay as long as she likes just be calm careful and gentle.

He took her small hand in one hand, it was so frail compared to the vibrant woman he had held hands with just a few short weeks ago

With the other, he kicked off his shoes, and as gently as he could slipped under the covers beside her

She instinctively curled into him, but not like the woman who had draped him after they had made love...no more like a little girl curling into a parent, a girl who was experiencing the very worst thunderstorm, and nightmares that wouldn't stop

 

[Asa]

The Dr said that none of my injuries should affect my dancing so I guess that is a good thing.

She tensed a little but held onto him as if for dear life

He kissed the top of her head, a small and loving peck

You need to heal, but physically you'll be fine

He felt her death grip, and he held her close, just wanting to protect her from the world

I have an idea of how we could more easily be together, and I think everyone would approve, if it is what you want

 

[Asa]

How?

She looked to him trying to see through swollen eyes.

He smiled, but was sad, how could anyone hit that face

Never in his life, not for a second, had he ever considered hurting a woman, and he would never understand men who did, he knew it was about power, but only showed weakness

He hugged her

Well, my note said I bought a place, a separate place, and it is a two flat...I wonder if your parents wouldn't feel better if you lived up stairs from your professor? The Dean actually suggested it

 

[Asa]

The condo is paid up for a yr and I love the privacy that it gives me from campus. Wish it was in the same condo complex where I already lived.

She just snuggled close she wasn't are afraid of him as she was anyone else right now so maybe that was a good sign.

He held her, not sure what she was thinking, it didn't matter right now

He didn't reply to what she said but she was safe there with him and that was all that mattered

He wasn't sure what he could do, he wanted to figure out how to be together, protect her, love her, somehow

He held her until she fell asleep, and then he

And when he woke up, she was still holding tight, and so he stayed

The Dean stopped by later, and saw what Rick was doing

"Good man, I wish all of my professors had that dedication...", but he was not looking forward to the conversation with her family

 

[Asa]

I want to go home. Don't want to stay in this hospital.

She tried to look to the dean.

The security features at the condo are fine...

Where is the condo your family has paid for?

The dean asked. She rattled off the address as he looked to Rick.

Is that where your new place is?

No Sir, I believe she lives in a larger condo complex

I just purchased a two flat, brownstone, which is near there, the first two floors are a single unit but where I can use the second unit as income property

I have had it redone with top notch security, including monitoring and motion sensors.

But, like I said, I think hers is more of a complex, wherever she and her family feel best, I just wanted to offer it as a possibility, you know I am most concerned about her safety and recovery

 

[Asa]

The dean nodded.

Doctors decision as well with all the steps in a brownstone. Familiar surroundings or familiar safe guardian? Interesting predicament. Well figure it out I can send that Ancient studies professor around to talk to you all she also has a couple of degrees in Psychology as well.

He nodded and left.

He had mistakenly thought she would want to jump at the chance of living together...for since the night they parted, his feelings had never changed...and all their time apart made him even more sure how he felt about her

But, had he been presumptuous, he really had no idea exactly how she had felt before this horrible crime...she had been dating...and now, who knew how she might feel about any man, including him

She just wanted to go home...and he wanted to be there for her...but if she were there...he wasn't sure how...or if he was really wanted?

 

[Asa]

The hospital had a psychiatrist on staff and had sent for her to talk with Talia.

Perhaps I can help explain and help all sides understand. Her desire to get home tells me the attack was out and away from far safety and comfort zone of home. That is why she wants to go home. Familiar surroundings offering safety and happier thoughts and memories. Her own space and domain. A place she has control.

Talia... They just wish to see you safe and being people of authority feel they are the ones who know what is the right decision for you and damage control against any perceived issue with bad publicity or parents. Might I offer a second alternative. If there is an extra bedroom or sleeper sofa perhaps during her recovery her protector can dwell in her safety zone.

He looked at her, looked into those scared eyes, the torture she had endured

Thank you Doctor what you are saying makes sense

I have gotten to know this young woman and she knows what she needs, she is quite remarkable and incredibly smart...I was presumptuous not to listen before making a recommendation

Whatever she needs, and feels will make her feel safe we will all support

Rick looked at the Dean who nodded in agreement

And if she wants any of us there with her, or even a body guad...we will get it done...but if she needs someone to sleep on her sofa...or an extra bedroom and would like that to be a man...someone she knows...I or any man she, and we, know can be trusted, I am sure will agree to help

We just want to help you Talia

 

[Asa]

She held a hand out to Rick. The dean nodded.

Rick she trusts you so you will stay at her place till we can sort all of this out and don't worry I will deal with Megan and I am sure she will listen to reason from the psychiatrist.

He took her hand and came over, going down on one knee

Holding her hand in one hand, he brushed her hair out of her eyes with the other

Give me 20 minutes to go get some clothes and clean up, and then I will be back and I will hold you until you sleep, and then hold you until you wake

We are all here for you, Dean would you stay until I return?

He nodded, and sat down in the chair, "I am glad she can trust you, can trust anyone"

Rick left, flew home, took the world's fastest shower, and was back with a gym bag, wearing sweats and a t-shirt in less than 20 minutes
