Whoever let this kid change her name legally to "Miley" should be locked up for child neglect.

Feel free to threadjack now.

Seems to have worked. She's a multimillionaire.

The semi-nudity controversy has provided a big career boost, too. So what if Disney is ticked off?

Thought: speaking of Disney, does anyone else begin to wonder whether being the child star of a Disney production might have a less than wholesome effect on young girls?

After all, Britney was a Mouseketeer...

So was Heidi Fleiss.

You lie!

Seriously?

At least once a month, I learn something startling in the AH...Maybe Disney should just stop fighting it, and start an Underage Soft Porn division.

I do lie. But I really like the thought of a Disney Underage Soft Porn Division. :D

Wait a minute! They already have High School Musical!

I'm scared to laugh at this.
But I really wanna.

In the works. I heard The Jonas Brothers and the Naked Brothers Band are planning on creating a "supergroup" (note the air quotes), and as such will be working "very closely" on some "long-awaited collaborations."
Seriously.

The trap door to hell is yawning at my feet right now.

They're blaming the photographer, aren't they?
They sorta are... which is such bullshit.

Please. Hannah Montana is worth hundreds of millions to Disney. Do you really think that with all the entourage that Miley has trailing her, not a single Disney rep was present at that shoot?

If you do, I have oceanfront property in Arizona for sale.

On the other hand, this may be a good thing in the long run for Miley... who, to be honest, I think does have some talent and seems to be pretty likable. But a little hint of controversy, just as she is entering the years when some of her fans are also rebelling?

I got no problem with Miley, or her parents, or the photographer (Annie Lebovitz BTW, whose credentials should stand for themselves.)

I actually kinda like the girl. And my daughter adores her.

Miley is embarassed... because Disney SAYS she should be embarassed.

OK, I get that she is a 15 year old girl who posed for these pictures, and I get that "kids" can be easily conned. But COME ON!! This whole "I'm not responsible for my own actions" thing is just getting out of hand. And honestly, I think she might have been put up to it, but not by the photographer.

Who should get in trouble? Vanity fair maybe, for letting it happen, and then PUBLISHING it, but still. I look at Disney more. They're not doing well on their batting averages.

Also, over in China, Disney has an ad for girl's underwear which shows a girl who can't be even 12, posing in her underwear and bra, with happy little Minnie Mouse on them. Ok, seriously... wthf.

edited because I realized I lapsed off in the middle there somewhere.

Disney seems to care about selling product. Long as they know the image will still sell they will overlook things. It is a same really. A studio shouldn't be a parent, but if they have an image of tolerant and family friendly place they should stick by it.

tsk, tsk, how soon we forget about poor pregnant.....whatserface....Jamie Lynn, yes that is it.

That Miley Cyrus is a total bitch. I feel like grabbing her by the hair, turning her over my knee and spanking her bare bottom.

That doesn't really sound all that bad, actually :D

Seriously, don't these people ever listen to Alanis Morissette? The teen idol industry is all about cheesecake and they bimbify everyone they get into their sweaty clutches - what are the Backstreet Boys but fodder for adolescent fantasy? Can they sing? Who cares!

I think it's actually a pretty tasteful photo, everybody has to grow up sometime, even if you are Billy Rays daughter.

Hell I don't even think they have this particular hangup in country music, which is all about premature adulthood leavened by latent childishness rather the other way around, 13 going on 30 is the norm.

Some thoughts.

I love how everyone is being dumb fucks about this Vanity Fair photo shoot, calling it dirty and such, when it was ANNIE LEIBOVITZ...one of the most artistic photographers out there with a fantastic eye, no less.

Miley is 15...you expect her to be a little Disney puritan for the rest of her life? That's fucking unnatural. Luna just had this conversation with me last night about Raven. She's twenty fucking one years old and basically downplays her sexuality for the sake of Disney, and it's probably one of the most unhealthy things someone can do.

Yes, the only reason Miley probably feels guilty and grossed out is because Disney is making her feel fucked up in the whole controversy. But how many of the littlest kids who watch Hannah Montana actually read or look at Vanity Fair? And those who DO know what's going on, so fucking what? It's a responsible parent who teaches their children about different forms of photography and art and explains why there's a controversy in the first place. A topless photo does not define a young woman, nor does it automatically turn her into a steaming harlot. Furthermore, unless a bare back is suddenly equivalent to exposing a breast or a cunt lip, I don't see how ANYTHING about that photo could be seen as dirty.

I understand that Disney Channel has a certain image and an idea of how that image should be maintained, but to suppress a young woman's sexuality not only strikes me as bizarre, but almost arcane.

As for Jamie Lynn, I don't think it's fair to assume how her parenting skills might turn out based on the mistakes of her sister. So she wound up pregnant...she seems to be handling it as well as a kid possibly can, and in the public eye no less. Of course, time will ultimately tell what kind of mother she'll be, and for the record, I don't hear Nickelodeon making a whole lot of uproar about the issue. They're essentially handling the pregnancy the same way HBO handled Sarah Jessica Parker's. Much more adult than the sobbing whines of Disney Channel in my opinion.

Thank you.

It's really an uncommonly restrained photo for Leibovitz, she looks like a kid getting out of bed in the morning - she looks human to me - which I have to say is good thing, as her usual shallow Barbie doll wholesomeness pretty much makes me want to puke - nice to see there's a human being under all that makeup, wardrobe and professional cheer.

I have to say, if you're sexualizing this photo, it's in your head, not the photo.

Here's a much more disturbing image:

That looks just like a 19th Century Romantic portrait. Erotic? I don't think so. Charming? Uh-huh.
