Literotic I guess as writers know who write here as well as hiving the usual writing requirements to be aware of and practice like plot, story, characters and dialog also has this one distinct commonality arguably, the erotic writing or content. A lot of this may simply come from the particular story type or category you write in.
I have recently started two new series, one is designed to have shorter stories. The second series is starting a new novel with the first chapters actually being a detailed back story to the main characters family going back to the grandparents.
I am finding though that in particular with the second series I don’t necessarily want to always write a part with some sexual erotic content. It’s not as if it is difficult to do but at times you just want to tell a story or develop characters that is not all about the sex or erotic content but is very much more character and story driven.
i am pretty sure other writers here also write non Lit pieces and maybe more commercially although that in itself is not a particular goal / ambition.
I have a more ambitious piece of writing I want to start but in some ways there will be no real erotic content. This will be about an individual’s journey and discovery of self and some interesting ideas for that journey.
I guess it’s an obvious point not everything you write has to be submitted or published in Lit.
it is likely though that the new project is likely to absorb my creative output so these new early Lit latest works may well stall. With the first of the new series that is less of an issue as they are designed in effect to very short stories or ideas with the three central characters.
The start of the new novel though is something quite different. Initially conceived as being very much an erotic focused tale in writing the background and creating a more expansive background the main core of the novel may steer away from the Lit erotic focus all together. It certainly seems that this is more how it should be written.
Have any writers faced similar? If so how did you handle it?
The main enjoyment for me is the creative writing process. Comimg up with plots and characters to tell a story.
I can always return to Lit I guess with two series I could pick up again
But there is also the likelihood my focus, direction and attention becomes absorbed in the new work which will leave the Lit body of work as is.
i guess I should feel okay about the writing per se. I.e what I enjoy without it really needing a submission or consideration for Lit.
