Ashwan was shunned by her tribe. She was left by a stranger in the streets, and the people did not believe in killing children. But they hated outsiders and humiliated her everyday. Her hair was long and black amd her eyes a grayish blue. She wanted to leave the village but didnt know where to go.

The day their enemies raided the village, they tied her up in the street and taunted her. Some threw fruit and others slapped her. Some even felt her breasts. She was their entertainment. She closed her eyes as a man approached with a whip and screamed as he lashed her back.

Her face was covered in dirt and what was left of the rotten fruit. She stared at the ground as blood ran down her back. And then ca.e shouts of alarm and a band of warriors approached swiftly and the others ran. Unable to move being tied up, she watched frightened as people were killed and captured. A horse cut loose was running at her and she struggled to move out of the way. She screamed as it was a few feet away, but someone pulled her out of its way

James was no hero. And he planned on fleeing town just like everyone else when those Indians bombarded the town. But how was he supposed to leave that beaten up girl lying their and live with himself?

The tatterered girl lie on the back of his horse as they fled town. Keeping her from falling was difficult with all the rope. Not to mention she looked half-dead. Luckily, there was a warm breeze. And although he didn't like to think in these terms, the girl, despite being beaten up, was rather pretty.

So he held his patience as they left town, yet he was still greatly relieved to reach a quiet stream a couple miles down. A nice place where he cold gather his thoughts, talk to this girl, and get back to a hard days work.

Ashwan whimpered as she felt someone lifting her small body, eyes half-closed as she looked up at him, trembling. She was afraid but in to much pain to put up a fight, and just stayed limp as he put her on the horse. As he ran with her, she closed her eyes, crying in silence.

When they stopped and he set her down on the ground, she just laid there, trembling, her face stained with tears and covered in dirt. Her body showed signs of years of abuse, the common scapegoat for every problem. She covered her head with her hands, a defensive position she'd often used
