After being told that he cannot remove items from the overhead bin until the plane is at the gate, a passenger called Steven a "mother fucker" and ignored him... possibly even hitting him.

Steven had enough today. He got on the intercom, told the guy to fuck off, grabbed some beer, deployed the inflatable slide to quickly exit, and went home.

I'll answer your question, since John Doe is a fuckwit: he's very well-liked by his co-workers, supposedly a super nice guy, defused a situation with an irate passenger a few weeks before this incident, and was being considered for an award from JetBlue.

When asked about passengers by the media upon his release from jail, the first thing he had to say was to compliment the vast majority of passengers for being cordial.
