After days of frenzied negotiations, Congress late Monday night passed a massive eleventh-hour bill that combined $900 billion in COVID-19 relief with a $1.4 trillion omnibus government spending measure.

Congress overwhelmingly passed the bill, which became available to lawmakers just a few hours before they were expected to vote on it — to the chagrin of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas.

"This is why Congress needs time to actually read this package before voting on it," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, linking to a story about the legislation making illegal streaming a felony. "Members of Congress have not read this bill. It’s over 5000 pages, arrived at 2pm today, and we are told to expect a vote on it in 2 hours. This isn’t governance. It’s hostage-taking."

Here's a closer look at some of the oddball provisions included in one of the largest relief packages in modern American history:

Everywhere you go to shop (here) are the signs announcing mandatory mask policies
and those places are full of rednecks not wearing masks, especially at the hardware store.

The very notion of writing mandatory mask provisions into Federal law is insane.

First of all, who's gong to enforce it? The FBI? Or are we going to create a new "Mask Enforcement" agency?

Next, that is the province of the states. Let them deal with it if they want.

Yea, most people here are voluntarily good about wearing them in more crowded areas, clinics and places where food/drank are being slung around.

You now, where some extra precautions make sense??

But most other cases.... No.

I mean sure you got the occasional Karen who melts down because someone was in their car with their CHILD not wearing a mask!!! Essentially MURDERING their own kid.

But nobody pays those dumb shit progressives any mind around here (northern Minnesota), even the sw suburbs of MSP seemed to be a lot more non-compliance than I expected to see.

I wear one to be considerate of the feelings of others,
but I often find myself running in to a place for a quick
purchase and find that I have forgotten my mask but the
merchants seem to be just as happy taking my money anyway.

I just go off requested policy of the establishment I'm going into.

Otherwise no mask.

Yeah, its an opportunity to throw non-relevant big shit and weird small shit in. I mean Smokey the Bear and the Dalai lama?

AOC and Cruz are right, but if everyone but the congressional leaders were negotiating it would never get passed. Took too long as it is. But...

And I’m with trump on this one. $600 is basically meaningless, meanwhile the Smithsonian gets 1 billion. Too bad trump just tweeted a time or two until now instead of working the members...but I guess he had other things on his mind.
