I used to have this little 5 speed import. One time some idiot on the freeway stayed right on my ass for miles. When I took the offramp and noticed he was still right on my bumper, I decided not to slow down through the turn untill the last possible moment. Then I down shifted from 5th to 1st without hitting the breaks, he came inches from hitting me, and I had to replace my transmission soon after, but I didn't care.

I drive really really slow for them and won't let them pass. Once I did that and the guy got around me, cut me off, and then stopped his car and got out. I drive little cars, so he was a little suprised when I got out of my car. He jumped back into his car, locked the door, and then burned rubber getting out of Dodge. That was fun.

I don't need to hit the brakes - I have been hit from behind 3 times, twice while at a stop. Believe me, you don't want to do this on purpose; even with a little bump it hurts!
I almost never tailgate, especially at speed and especially in my car. Sometimes I tailgate for a few seconds on my bike when I wam weaving in and out of traffic, but it is unlikely that on a 500 pound bike I will hurt anyone who is in a 5000 pound car. They can do me real damage, but it is almost always the biker how gets hurt.
Besides, I can get up to 100 MPH and back to zero in the same amount of time it takes a car just to get up to 100 MPH. Bikes can accelerate and stop a lot faster than cars, and they can fit into spaces cars can't. This is why I have a special circuit on my bike that turns on my brake lights when I am decelerating using the engine only - I can slow as fast with the engine as a lot of cars can with their brakes, and since a lot of bikers get hit from behind by cars, I figure it is insurance - especially when someone is following closely.
