I'm working on a story where a table is analogous to the relationships an older lady has had throughout her life. The place settings need to not only match the husband/lover at the time, but more importantly, the year. The problem is I don't remember what an early 1970's place setting looked like. Any help: common themes that existed, trinkets that were popular, styles of silverware or cloth would be incredibly helpful.

Thanks to everyone in advance for offering suggestions. It is greatly appreciated. :)

What social class do your characters belong to? It makes a big difference, you know. I was a young husband in the '70's and table settings consisted of our wedding stainless flatware whatever plates we had on hand!

I suggest going to a used bookstore and finding an old illustrated cookbook. It'll have dishware that was popular, and colors. I seem to remember a lot of orange and browns with bold florals. Dark wood serving dishes in funky shapes. Of course, that was late 70's.

I have an old Joy of Cooking that describes how to set tables with diagrams. It's dated 1970. It also has a recipe for cooked armidillo.

Middle socio-economic income. He's a well trained carpenter; however, they're still young. I'm incorporating some bowls that he made, but would like something nastalgic oriented alongside it as well. Thanks again for the help.
