Swiss Invade Liechtenstein: is it a question of war or peace?

This breaking news story, first broken on the AH by 3113, https://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=501573 raises questions both ominous and annonymous.

Are war clouds looming over Europe?

Did the perfidiuos Lichtensteiners (hereafter referred to as "Lichers") lure Swiss troops across their bourder as the first step in a mind-boggling conspiracy to become THE alpine power?

Have the Swiss lost all sense of direction?

Will the Swiss Guards launch a coup d'état in the Vatican?

Was it really an "accident?"

Does anyone care?

Swiss accidentally invade Liechtenstein
Fri Mar 2, 8:51 AM ET

What began as a routine training exercise almost ended in an embarrassing diplomatic incident after a company of Swiss soldiers got lost at night and marched into neighboring Liechtenstein.

According to Swiss daily Blick, the 170 infantry soldiers wandered just over a mile across an unmarked border into the tiny principality early Thursday before realizing their mistake and turning back.

A spokesman for the Swiss army confirmed the story but said that there were unlikely to be any serious repercussions for the mistaken invasion.

"We've spoken to the authorities in Liechtenstein and it's not a problem," Daniel Reist told The Associated Press.

Officials in Liechtenstein also played down the incident.

Interior ministry spokesman Markus Amman said nobody in Liechtenstein had even noticed the soldiers, who were carrying assault rifles but no ammunition. "It's not like they stormed over here with attack helicopters or something," he said.

Liechtenstein, which has about 34,000 inhabitants and is slightly smaller than Washington DC, doesn't have an army.

There's a Swiss army?
Just in case you'd like to be bothered by the facts:
(the facts as I think I know them, anyway :)

Switzerland does have a standing army, consisting of all adult male* citizens. Upon reaching the age of (18? 21? whatever the age of Swiss majority is?), all Swiss men must undergo compulsory military training & service. In addition, every male Swiss householder is required by law to keep and maintain a rifle and ammunition at ready.

That's why nobody (not even Lichtenstein :) invades Switzerland:
it walks softly, but carries (n = adult male population) big firesticks.

- Quince, who (thinks she) knows way too much :)

(*What I don't know is whether Swiss women serve in their Armed Services, on a compulsory or volunteer basis; or whether female Swiss householders also keep rifles ready. Those things may have changed a bit since that Social Studies report I did on Switzerland back in the 5th grade :)

Don't be silly, Quince. The reason nobody invades Switzerland is because they have everyone's dirty money locked away in numbers bank accounts. They could easily lose the keys

This helps, yes.

I read a very good science fiction story once that was based on the idea that the Swiss were not trained as soldiers.

They were trained as assassins and saboteurs.

Any time someone started making noise about invading Switzerland, important people in the chain of command suddenly turned up dead. Or something important got destroyed and it looked like someone other than the Swiss did it.

I was quite charmed by the idea. An elegant and cost effective way of waging war.

Women can serve, but there is no compulsory service for them. And about the rifle thing, the average male there doesn't actually keep one. At least noone I knew kept one (I grew up there). Wait, was I not supposed to let the world know?
*looks over shoulders for Swiss assassin*

Of course this also begs the question... "If the pope were attacked from behind, would Greece help"

I once applied to join the swiss Navy, never got a response though

But we know what agency of the Swiss did respond to you, right Pop? (wink, wink) I'm sure you still remember all that "special" training you got while in Switerland (wink, wink) And did you get the money I just wired you for that "thing" I'd like you to take care of? It's the guy who stole this thread from me...

(My understanding is) that they are required to by law, not that they necessarily do :)
(Americans are supposed to drive their cars at or below the speed limit. No one I know consistently does.*)

(*I've heard tell that one family friend keeps to the speed limit as a firm matter of principle. In keeping with another thread, that particular man is the closest thing to a true Moral Absolutist that I've ever heard of.)

I adhere strictly to the speed limits... apart from the few times I got caught  ;)

Perfidious Schweiz?

They became unbalanced (and lost their sense of direction? ) when they went off the gold standard a few years ago.

So if you were the authorities in Liechenstien, would you make a fuss? Having no army and no way to defend yourself, then what?

At least I learned something from this thread. I never heard of Liechenstien before and I'm over 45. What is this, some city that decided to cedede from reality?

Have you heard of Andorra?

The only place that fought in both World Wars at the same time. ;)
"Andora" is also a song by Pete Seger -

I want to go to Andora, Andora.
I want to go to Andora. It's the land that I adore.
They spend four dollars and ninety cents,
On armaments. A great defence.
Did you ever hear of such confidence?
Andora, Hip Horray.

How did I know that?

Hehe, you're welcome. And I like your phrasing :)

I knew what you meant. And do you know over here, they are trying to pass a law that would fine drivers who are holding up traffic by driving the speed limit? Why have a speed limit then?

Anyway I remember that when I was in grade school and kids asked why we had an army, teachers really would answer "just in case". They never said in case of what though.
