Sweet Things & Deviant Thoughts

Yesss there’s nothing better than getting lost in a good book! And just forgetting the real world for a bit and living inside the world your mind creates while reading it’s wonderful!!
If I’m not rude to ask (you both, others too no doubt), any books that have stayed with you?

They don’t need to be life-changing tomes of high prose and great wisdom; anything that’s basically been a really satisfying read and one you think back on fondly - basically I’m shamelessly stealing recommendations if I can :D

And lovely to see the fine new thread, Ms Deviant 💯

it’s truly the most special thing. Can’t wait for winter when I really get into my reading.

Some random faves:
Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
Piranesi by Susanna Clarke
A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles
All My Puny Sorrows by Miriam Toews
Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
Bunny by Mona Awad
All The Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby
Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman

Not all of them were a 5/5 but I throughly enjoyed them.

-Loved- "A Gentleman in Moscow."

😍😍😍😍😍 my first book that I absolutely feel in love
It’s magic. Truly. It has everything I love in a book.
I read it when I worked as a bookseller in my teens. And I’ve read-read it many times since.
Do you read the other ones of the saga?
Yes, except the last one. I think I’ll read it soon. We shall see.
I was so devastated when Carlos passed, I think we would have gotten so many more amazing books from him.
I have tried to read the first in Spanish but I find it very hard. I’ll try again in the winter.

Yes!! I heard there’s a movie or a show but I haven’t seen it yet.

Yes sadly he passed away too young.

What stuck with me for all eternity is his description of love from the protagonist to Clara, his first love and his first heartbreak 💔

It’s so good!
I’m a sucker for prose, for long descriptions of setting and feelings etc etc.

The moment you stop to think about whether you love someone, you've already stopped loving that person forever.
