What we are offering here is the very rare 1st edition of Emanuel Swedenborg's famous work: The Delights of Wisdom Concerning Conjugial Love: After Which Follow The Pleasures of Insanity Concerning Scortatory Love. 1st English edition, published in London in 1794.

The book talks of marriage and sex-morality and also of various perversions of marriage. Many practical matters of the relationship between the sexes such as courtship, betrothal, jealousy, temptation, disaffection, sensuality, prudence, and courtesy are dealt with. Eternal ideas are advocated as the only proper starting point for a happy marriage life, although problems posed by the power of the sensual are not ignored. The family, as the basic unit of society, receives stress in Conjugial Love.

Titles were more explicit in the 18th Century.

I would love to read this one! Most people don't even know Swedenborg's name. I am currently working on a conference length paper on the influences of Swedenborg's theology on J. Sheridan LeFanu's fiction.

I'm running into Swedenborg a lot myself too. He has a lot to do with modern angelology.

It turns out the American folk hero Johnny Appleseed was actually a Swedenborgian mystic and nomad.
