I've just discovered it, and I've fallen in love! Can anybody give me a few pointers as to whats what?

The green stuff is wasabi and it is very HOT and should be used in moderation! ;)

Sweet Jesus!

Isn't it like a little party in your mouth?

I love it when the little tiny eggs pop.

Oh... you mean the green horseradish stuff? Yeah, I found that out the hard way. What are you suppose to do with it?

Well, if you can tolerate the "warm wasabi" you can put it in with some Soy Sauce and mix it up and dip your Sushi in it. Most of the sushi should have a little wasabi on them as put on there by the preparer, though I think some Sushi comes w/out it.

I am NOT an expert on Sushi, that would be my SO.

Ahhh, sweet heaven. Great stuff man, great stuff. Too bad it has such limited availability in my area.

The pink stuff is ginger, which should also be used as a garnish.

now, there are generally three different things people refer to as "sushi"

Sashimi - The chunks of raw fish

Sushi - The fish tied to rice

Sushi Rolls - Which are whatever the restaurant wants to make them.

Also, from my meat eating days I can reccomend Unagi as being a particularly tasty piece of fish.

*Chuckles*

I thought the Ginger and Horseradish was there as a sort of breath freshener.

Freshness is obviously key. Find a place you're comfortable with, then just keep ordering a la carte (or order sampler type plates) until you find what you like.

The best thing in the universe, IMO, are spicy tuna rolls *drools*
