Survivor Contest...

Okay, I'll admit it... When I first heard of the "Survivor" contest so long ago I thought it was something about (or, at least, similar to) the TV show Survivor.

Since then I have read some of the threads about it in the Contests board and this one. Though I have read some of those threads, I still have some questions...

First of all, will there be a contest for 2003? And, do we get the whole year to pop out the stories? In the "notes" area of the submission form do we need to write "Survivor contest"? And, can someone give me a quick summary of the rules and points? (Do we keep track of our own points or does Laurel?)

Thank you. :)

Yes, there will be a 2003 contest. Discussion for it will begin next month.

Yes, you have the full year to write stories.

You keep track of your own points on a "board" of some sort on the Awards forum. This year's seemed to work much better than when Laurel did it.

No, you don't have to mention anything in your story at all. It's all tracked on the boards. You don't even have to "officially" enter until December 31.

There is an element of chance introduced through "immunity challenge." This will be up for discussion.

Basically, you have 365 days to post a story in every category or win an immunity for a category.

Rules and other errata will be up for discussion again in January.

Wow, really?

I'm fairly new...just like 7 weeks, so this is the frist I've heard of it.

So, one must post both here and the Story boards?

Or just one?

And must declare they want to enter where?

I'm gonna go look for a FAQ on this right now!

Hrrm, ok...

So, I only have a few days left, and a busted water heater....I think I"ll wait a week for the new one to come up, if that's ok. I promsie not to work on any stories I might use til then :D

PS, you have the right to prepare all you want!

I would, if I wasn't so desperately needing every story I can think up for the last few days of this year's challenge. Chicklet's a given winner, and right now Wm_Sexspear and I are battling for 2:nd place!:)

Ooooh, just you wait, WMS, I've got a secret weapon up my sleeve..!:D

Thank you, KillerMuffin. I'll be sure to check out the Contests board once Jan. rolls around. PoliteSuccubus had a good question, too. Do we need to "officially" declair we wish to enter, or shouldn't that be obvious once we start keeping tabs of points? :)

One more question...

...so far. ;)

On the Chain stories, is there a special theme that will be determined, or can a few authors choose something on their own to work on?

Thanks for all of your help so far! :D I think it might be fun to actually try this this year. :)

You don't need to officially declare yourself in the contest this year. This year just keeping a tally post is enough. You do have to put in some sort of official tally post before close of business December 31st so you can be tabulated (whichever year you're playing in). How this will work next year has yet to be decided.

The Chain Stories is something else entirely! There is one every year so far, three popped up this year. Sometimes in the Spring the Survivor authors seem to start chewing on the notion so they can get a bump in the category. If not, then you're more than welcome to start one on your own. There's a snippet in the FAQs about Chain Stories.

We haven't started discussing 2003 yet, but we will! As soon as all stories are posted and all immunities are done, I'll start a thread there and discussion can commence.

A moderator must be chosen. Rules and point scoring must be agreed on. I'll dig up the old survivor threads so we can have a reference. Anyone can participate in the discussion! Everyone interested is encouraged to do so.

I don't plan on moderating again in 2003 like I did this year. I'm going to pass the buck. :)

I had such dreams last night...

I guess my subcon is working already!

The dreams I drempt last night...twins and upset husbands and ....Oh MY!

Time's up.

I admit my defeat, and place the crown of laurel leaves :)D ) on queen Chicklet's head.

(Ah, well... my colour analysis says I look better in silver than in gold, anyway. I'm the Light Silver Summer - type.)

Let's all hear it for Chicklet! Hurra! Hurra! Hurra! Hurra!

Survivor 2003

Would anyone mind if I moderated this years contest? I would *really* *really* like to!

Chicklet

I don't mind. I sure don't know enough about it yet to have too much of an opinion of who takes over. Just, don't change the rules or scoring too much so I don't get confused! lol

lol i hear ya.

personally I really liked the way it was put together last year; it seemed to work out really well. The only thing I might even discuss changing would be the bonuses, because 1) there are a lot more story categories this year, so maybe they should be more spread out or 2) maybe we shouldn't use them at all.

Chicklet,

Congratulations - well done.

 I am not particuarly concerned who is the moderator. However I do think that before proposing yourself, you ought to ask KM if she wishes to continue - she has done a great job this year and I believe the year before.

On the subject of bonuses I have to ask what was wrong with the system? - I tend to subscribe to the - "if it ain't broke don't fix it" school of thought.

We will begin discussion about next years sometime in January. Someone else will get to moderate it.

I assumed from these that KM didn't want to do it this year, and I pm'd her a while back (ah hem, no answer, KM)

About the Bonuses, I was thinking that there were a lot of subjects added, and I take it back because really only 4 were added. (33 subjects total, now)

so forget what i said = )

Wouldn't it be cool if we made a tradition of appointing every year's Literotica winner the next year's moderator?

After all, if you win the contest, you DO know how it's supposed to be done!

:D Chicklet,

Sorry I had missed KM's post - Fine you can be the moderator as far as I am concerned.

:p HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I might win. I don't mind writing, but as an Moderator no way. Take a look at my chaotic life.

OK, how about this then... every year, the winner of the Literotica Survivor Contest is offered the role as moderator, and then she or he can accept or decline the offer.

There. Better?

Keep the bonuses! It's incentive for people to try to write in areas they may not have otherwise! I also agree, though, that the point numbers should be changed a bit. There are currently 30 categories now.

Excluding Extreme since it's not allowed, and the Holiday contests, I only counted 30 story categories. Did you count "new" and "tops"?

Warms up fingers....

Start now?:D

I'm playing fair, and haven't written anything yet except the start of my novellea called "The Weekend"

Is that OK?

I agree with Jon. (Not saying I'm good enough to win, mind you...) But, if I were to win, I don't know if I'd want to moderate this contest. I know what kind of work it is to moderate a board at Lit and to keep on top of things. It's not all fun and games.
