Supporting Red...

Tomorrow I'll be heading to Indianapolis to have my 4 month check up. :) I am looking forward to it. I have copies of my blood work from my family doctor, who did test back at the beginning of Feb.

Granted, I don't know how to read that stuff, but since my family doc, never voiced any concerns I assume everything is normal with me. . .well as normal as RedHairedandFriendly can be normal.

w00t!! Down one this morning. :D

My surgeon and dietitian appointments went well yesterday, even managed to have the dietitian take me an hour earlier than scheduled. :nana: I got home an hour earlier, too.

Both of them are real happy with my results at just 4 mths out. I am too, of course. I've been told to start introducing raw vegetables and fruits into my diet, because it takes the body longer to digest these things, and so I'll stay fuller longer.

Also, I am supposed to start considering how big I want my pouch to get. By the end of the year, with normal eating (normal by my new standards) my pouch will hold from 7 to 10 ounces. I am supposed to decide how big I want that pouch to get.

The dietitian says that most women choose 7 ounces as their goal and men tend to go toward the larger scale (Not like 10 is large, I mean a can of soda is 12 oz.). I see myself at 7-8 oz. because I don't want to give myself too much room to "play" since I am having no serious ailments when it comes to food.

Right now the only things I seem to have issues with are foods that are fried, chicken (plain), shrimp and egg. Egg whites, I may try to reintroduce, because they are a good source of protein.

She (the dietitian) gave me some really good ideas as far as protein goes. She doesn't encourage protein bars/drinks, this far into the surgery. She'd like to see me team protein with a vegetable or fruit during snack time. Cottage cheese/pineapple. . .a slice of ham and a slice of cheese. . .an apple and string cheese. Also I learned Pears are the best fruit to eat out of the fruit/veggie group. Hard pears, not those soft ones. lol.

On other fronts. . .

I've been having issues with my ovaries again. *sigh* I had a cyst removed back in Sept. 06 and I feel as if there may be another one to contend with. I have an appt. on March 7th with my Ob-Gyn. It was a rescheduled appt. from Wednesday with a Nurse Practitioner. Hopefully, since I am seeing the actual doctor, I will be able to get an ultrasound that day, instead of having to come back, which is what I would have had to do with the NP doing the exam. (Doctors have special pull. ;) ) I do so like my Ob-Gyn. She's very cool and I've had her as a Doctor for the past 8 years or so.

Good for you! Sounds like you had a very interesting trip. All those tips will keep you on track (and I'll be taking note and buying some hard pears this week too ;) )

Good luck with the ultrasound :rose:

Why pears? I mean, I know they're one of the highest fiber fruits ... but they're also one of the highest sugar.

As for protein, egg whites are key for me. (I haven't had surgery, but I do follow a very high-protein/low-carb diet.)

She wants me to have pears because of the high fiber, but also because it is the most nutritious. It will take my body longer to digest the pears, thus leaving me fuller for a longer period of time. The sugar is a not harmful to me or my weightloss, because it is a natural sugar.

Artificial ones are a no-no, but I do have them with some foods I eat or liquids I drink. I usually use splenda if possible, otherwise I do sweeten my tea, at restaurants, with sugar.

Thank you Gypsy. :rose: I am down to breaking my pain meds. in half for my rest at night and picked some Advil gel caps for daytime use, hoping to stall off the discomfort till the doctor can see me. I do so hope it will dissolve, but family history tells me it won't. I figure they'll measure it, send me home, then I'll still have issues, go in and remeasure, then they'll decide to remove it.

Birth-control pills are also an option. I know they have used that to treat women who develop cysts and it helps to keep them from occurring so often. Birth-control pills were never an option for me before, because of my high-blood pressure, now that I no longer take high-blood pressure medication, we may go that route.

I love raw veggies especially with a good dip. I have never cared for many cooked veggies with the exception of artichokes.

I hope you aren't dealing with much pain sweetie.

I went through that with my wife.

I'll send plenty of good thoughts and prayers your way and hope that you have an excellent weekend. (((((((((((Red)))))))))))

I like raw fruits and veggies, and steamed ones. I don't care for canned ones. Freshly frozen ones aren't too bad either. But I prefer raw or steamed.

Thanks au_man. This is the second one that has driven me to take pain killers. (sigh) I'll live though. :D

For a second there, I thought you meant "artificial pears" were a no-no ... but then I realized you meant artificial (i.e, refined) sugars. Understood.

Kudos to you, BTW. Taking control of your health is so incredibly wonderful & empowering regardless of the path taken.

You can never have too much lingerie! I'm glad you're having fun with your new look. Maybe you'll be starting an Amateur Pic thread sooner than you think... ;)

It is amazing how different I feel about myself. What I shop for. What I go out in. How I walk. Everything is different. There are days I still get dragged down, but I try to pick myself back up again.

I tried so many other options before this one. I don't regret this surgery at all. I know I will have skin issues and so we have the "Nip, tuck & realignment fund" started at our bank. ;) :D

You know I thought about that for all of twenty seconds the other day! LOL.... That thought ran away though. lol.

I just did this. When you're ready, I'll share my experiences.
