Supporting Characters?

The character I mentioned previously here I just submitted the second paperback featuring her for editing and the third has been started. Also her love interest which was tossed in when I tossed her in is now in the works for her own story as well.

They have far outlived the story they were originally part of as supporting characters

I absolutely have. With The Lost One, I was originally going to make four more stories after it, each based on a secondary character introduced in that one. But I don't plan on doing those stories now.

I have thought about writing a piece about Samantha from Saturday's Child. Wanted to try and wrap my head around her particular situation and what her outcome might be. Been on a back burner for a while. Might bring it to a boil in a few weeks.

EDIT: I just remembered I did do a sort of spin off of another Lit Author's story, though my protagonist wasn't actually a supporting character in her work. Does that count?

There wasn't anyone supporting me in my first story but in my new one there's a couple policemen, 'cept one is a girl, that helped me up when I fell in the snow and then helped me down the hallway to the kitchen later and stuff. So I guess they are supporting and I might do another story 'bout them but it would still be me in it cause I see them a lot and they're fun and nice and stuff, 'Specially Maria cause she's got a dictionary butt and I like that.

PS Did you mean like child support cause I don't have that in any of my stories and I'm on the pill so I won't get any for now but maybe when I can't dance anymore and stuff.

I go both ways in the later use of characters. A couple of supporting characters in my work in progress were primary characters in a work about a year ago. Their B&B appears in both stories, as well.

Characters are the author's invention (although we may abstract some from what passes for external reality). We may insert them wherever and however we wish in our tales. Minor and major characters are easily swapped between plotlines depending on the author's mood. More than a few of mine appear in various contexts. IMHO it's a matter of authorial comfort and familiarity with their possible roles.
