Hello, my name's TheEarl and I'm unGoogleable.

Whenever I try and google my name, I always end up getting hundreds of links to hotels and not even a whiff of a story site, leaving me to wonder if thieves are, as we speak, running away with my stories.

So I opened up this thread, as something of a signup page for the unGoogleable of Lit. If anyone does find a website specialising in half-inched stories, can they spare a moment to look for some of our works, since it's bloody difficult for us to track them down without knowing exactly where to look.

I was just googling myself and, yep, I too am ungoogleable. It doesn't even bring up anything I have on lit.

Yay for you, Earl!

FYI - I did get some pertinent hits when using Google's Advanced Search -- but putting "impressive" in the regular box and a story title in the phrase box.

However, I didn't do it for each and every one of my stories/poems (yet).

From another UnGoogleable,

Hi, I'm Weird Harold and I'm twice unggoglable.

Weird Harold turns up about a million hits for cartoons and Bill Cosby records but no stories.

The nme I actually post my fiction under is something that at lest turns up a few porn stories but few of them as an author's name and none of those are MY stories -- Dirty Old Man is a fairly common nomdepluem for erotic stories.

Don't feel bad, I am googleable under the three stooges. Don't ask me  other than finding one site advertising something but nothing about a recent but none of my other stories . . . I remain in the realm of the ungooged :D It's less stressful anyhow :rose: more time to write.

Try tossing the word "erotic" or "erotica" into the search along with your handle.

And one whose AVs just haunt me! (yum)

You can thank Dranoel for my current one, he found it for me.

thanks!

There are a lot of Colleen Thomas's out there. With some work I can sorta google for my stories, but not easily. One thing that would help your fellow litizens in helping you might be to let folks know what category you write most often.

Someone who writes to one cat mainly, will probably search that cat throughly and give the others a cursory examination. I found one of Abs's stories, because it happened to be Lesbian and that's what I mostly write. If it had been in loving wives I would probably have missed it.

Obviously, if I see a fellow litizen's work I will alert them, but unless I have read something by you I could easily miss your works if they aren't in the category I am scrutinizing.

Oh, crap -- I'm all over the place: Lesbian, Group, Erotic Couplings, Humor & Satire, Letters & Transcripts, Erotic & Non-Erotic Poetry ... and soon to be Mind Control.

Yikes!

YOU'RE UNGOOGLEABLE?

Can you imagine what typing Just_Legal brings up?

*shakes head*

I fell off my chair the first time... LOL

Hate to crash this party folks, I've seen the other threads and haven't spoken up. Yes when someone steals your story and name thats terrible, and I guess you should track them down. I've seen my stories stolen, without my name, and a few words changed around, but definately mine. The author name is usually anonymous. While there I have seen others I recognized, because I read your original story, but a few words here and there, and author name anonymous.

So, I blew it off. I thought if they took it and changed anything, and changed author name, how would you prove, well, prove anything. Any thoughts on this? These are the ones your not going to find with the search.

Poor mans copy - mail it to yourself, registered with date, include two witness statements inside, and dont give up the date. If it comes to it, the copy will be opened in court - the burden of proof is for the other party to prove they own. Unless the other party is a huge corporation with multi-million dollar lawyers, they will not be able to do this. Intellectual property laws are wishy washy. Copyright in Canada is expensive and sucks. The Library of Congress in the U.S. is cheaper and reputable.

Just an idea or two.

If you have seen anyone's story or your own Lisa, I would mention it, as the proper author is neither being credited nor paid. :D Colly had a problem with this not too long ago I think.

Your stories are your property Lisa. Posting them to a public site dosen't forefiet that. Someone taking your work and changeing the character names is still theft and still actionable. It's still your work.

While legally actionable, most of us cannot afford to fight that kind oflegal battle. At the same time, most webmasters can't afford to fight it either. One story will not make or break their site, one lawsuit could.

Laurel is very good about helping, and she has a lot of experience. There is no obligation for you to fight people pirateing your works. If you do want to, there are a lot of actions you can take.

I've had it happen a couple of times. thus far Laurel and the webmasters of the sites have been very cooperative. I copyright my works now. I doubt I will ever need them, but the expense is worth the piece of mind to me.

Lady of Disguise is not real googleable (there's a book by that name, it pops up everywhere.)

I have googled phrases out of each story though. Just did it and got 4 stolen stories.

That's a very good way for anyone to find out if any of their stories have been swiped/half-inched/thieved/plagiarsied/whatever.

If anyone doesn't know, all you have to do is either take the first line, or a certain phrase, from one of your stories, place it in quote marks and Google it. That way, it is possible to find if your stories are out there, even if they aren't credited to you.

It can take a while, but is well worth doing once in a while.

Lou :rose:

P.S. I had to add this and gloat a little. I seem to be the only Tatelou on the 'net, it's been that way ever since I've been around. Far longer than the internet. :p

"Dranoel" came back with 18 or so pages. I got bored after two pages of checking. So I tried by Story Title.

After Midnight: 1000 links to Eric Clapton sites amongst others

The Boat: I got itmore pages than I could count.

The Striped Shirt: Every clothier in the world.

A Weekend in the Mountains: Hundreds of travel agencies

Day at the Beach: Another perspective. See above.

I found some of yours, babe, but they mostly seem to be using Lit pages as ad copy:

J-L: I can just imagine. Hope you didn't see anything too scarring/inspiring :D.

Thanks for the tip about googling a sentence.

Black Tulip gives me about 90 pages!
Does that qualify as ungoogable?

Most of it is about the Alexandre Dumas story and the rest about trying to create the damn flower.

I tried advanced with the story title included. That lead back to Literotica a few times, as it should be.
