In the forest there was a solitary tower rising up above the treetops. Villagers and travelers knew to tread carefully when the tower was in sight for it was the home of the Dread sorceror of the woods, a man few knew, but everyone had heard of by his reputation-usually exagerated to scare the village children from going to far into the woods. None dared enter the tower.
Severic Kilannan did not care, he had lived in the tower in the woods for centuries and had all that he required brought to him by magic for he was a wizard of immense power and knowledge.
As a youth he had lived and studied in Haeresthel, the city of white mages, but he had been a proponent of a controversial philosophy, called the balance. That between the vying powers of good and evil there needed a mediating force to balance and prevent the inevitable catastrophe when the two fought for dominance The arguing between him and those of his more traditional minded fellow mages accelerated to brawling one night, and Severic's banishment and sealing his magical powers from him.
He didn't mind for the sealing was a blessing in disguise for him. It forced him to find the source of magic to reconnect with it and become more powerful than any of those fools in Haeresthel.
He had traveled the world over gathering up what magical arts he could using his lonely tower as a place to study and learn the workings of those arts.
He had not left his tower in years now, but he could feel the forces of good and evil rising in the world heading to an earth-rending cataclysm, he would need to gather allies to preserve the balance.
He stood in a room at the crest of his tower. Before him was a magical glyph-circle in pure white sorceror's sand. The circle nearly took up the whole floor of his room, and in the center was a pentagram to summon his intended creature. Outside that was a circle of glyphs to shield the creature when being summoned from being expelled back to hell by the laws of reality in the mortal plane. Outside that was a circle to give the creature shape and substance here in the material world. Outside that was a circle to give the creature senses of touch, hearing, sight, smell, and taste here-those were simple 12th year apprentices in Haeresthel could recreate them. Lastly there were two circles vastly more complicated and demanding to contain and restrain the creature within it.
He checked the book on summoning demons he had gotten many years before in his hands one last time checking each and every glyph carefully there could be no mistakes in any one of them or it would result in utter disaster. He closed the book and placed it on a small bench. Taking up a red candle he carefully placed it onto the exact center of the pentegram and lit it.
Then Severic stepped inside the circle of command-connected to but apart from the summoning circle, and he began to activate the glyphs speaking words, for all words had power, but these more than others. After the glyphs were activated he began the summoning outright. Speaking more words of even greater power.
The light in his room atop the tower began to fade to black even though through the windows it was still noon. The candle began to melt and a thick heavy red vapor began to coalesce above the pentegram. the pure white sorceror's sand tuned obsidian black and burned with a terrible blue fire alighting the entire circle of glyphs. The red cloud of smoke began to take a vaguely human shape. The sand had melted into a mirror smooth lines of glass.
He continued speaking the words as the humanoid shape of smoke took on more solidity then more defined features like hands legs and head.
As he neared the end of the spell the form took on wings, horns, tail. Solid flesh and bone and hair too.
Then he spoke the last part of the spell the creature's true name making it obey the summons no matter what, "Xggrandzzzzt, handmaiden and concubine of the dark lord of Hell, Come forth."
There the shape was complete before him in the center of the pentagram stood a succubus, a demon of lust and deception.
